About The Role – Technical Manager – Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals (Winnemucca, NV, USA)

 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Technical Manager to lead our technical operations at the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals Winnemucca, NV site. You’ll optimize processes for efficiency, safety, environmental performance, and quality, while mentoring a talented technical team and driving continuous improvement.

 

What you will be doing 

 

•    Optimize site technical operations for efficiency, safety, environmental performance, and quality
•    Lead solutions for process, safety, and environmental challenges—both immediate and long-term
•    Develop, implement, and train technical SH&E procedures
•    Minimize plant integrity and SH&E risks through engineering design and hazard studies
•    Lead hazard evaluations and develop talent within your team
•    Oversee process safety parameters, audits, and safety leadership interactions
•    Identify and drive step-change improvements in manufacturing assets
•    Implement plant improvement and optimization projects
•    Maintain quality management systems and provide technical guidance to production teams
•    Lead technical investigations and apply advanced problem-solving techniques
•    Support process optimization and new capital projects
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence

 

What you will bring 

 

•    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded)
•    10+ years’ experience in the chemicals or related industry as a process engineer
•    5+ years in management roles within manufacturing, with customer environment understanding
•    Proven leadership of medium-sized work groups
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Ability to inspire teams and drive operational excellence
•    Knowledge of continuous process manufacturing principles (sodium cyanide experience a plus)
•    Expertise in chemical engineering principles and regulatory requirements
•    Experience in design, commissioning, project management, and/or production

 

Role Dimensions 

 

•    On-site at Winnemucca plant, five days a week.
•    3 direct reports; Member of the Winnemucca Leadership team. 
•    Operating environment includes two NaCN solutions plants and one NaCN solids plant.
