About the role - Supply Planning Specialist (Winnemucca, Nevada)
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Supply Planning Specialist within our Specialty Mining Chemicals team.
- The Supply Chain Specialist role is a hybrid role including purchasing, materials management.
- This role is responsible for procuring materials or other goods and/or coordinating activities involved with purchasing products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising, for the establishment
- This role will receive, review, and expedite orders as needed
- In addition, this role is responsible for managing the Winnemucca site inventory, yard management. Raw material purchase orders will be placed against the monthly plan and monitored to ensure optimal raw material inventory against a changing production schedule
What you will be doing
Materials Management:
- Manage physical inventory and monitor ERP accuracy by conducting Cycle counts on the warehouse and raw materials.
- Manage Raw Material purchases and timing with vendors to ensure optimal stock levels (manage reorder Points).
- Monitor expected and actual shipment dates of railcars from the vendor, adjusting dates based on production needs and delivery dates that are spread throughout the month to minimize rail congestion and maintain inventory within site permit levels. Receive railcars into the ERP system. Ensure raw materials are managed first in, first out to minimize demurrage charges, and close out purchase orders in the system.
- Validate inventory health. Report variances against safety stock and work with production to ensure the oldest batches are utilized and partial containers are managed (FIFO inventory management).
- Conduct weekly cycle counts and month-end inventory counts for all warehouse and raw materials.
- Coordinate with the Equipment Manager for the planned maintenance program to ensure adequate stock of spares.
- Act as the local subject matter expert for delivery planning and the purchase order process. Ensure timely and accurate posting of all relevant data (good receipt, goods issue, etc.) in the ERP system daily, and provide input into the monthly closing process.
- Participate in regular meetings with the production team, planning team to understand and communicate changes to the weekly plans.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with plant personnel, planning, and supply chain management. Ensure any delays or changes in production or logistics schedules are communicated in a timely manner. Capture causes for delay to allow root cause determination and resolution to avoid future delays.
- Ensure a safe working environment and comply with all safety regulations and guidelines. Highlight unsafe working conditions and perform stop-work activities if required. Conduct periodic driver and terminal audits as required.
Purchasing:
- Consult daily with the supply, stores, and procurement departments to ensure the timely arrival of materials, spares, and equipment at the site
- Procures materials or other goods and/or coordinates activities involved with purchasing products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising, for the establishment.
- Receives and reviews requisitions requesting goods or services.
- Communicates with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Expedites orders and requests as needed.
- Estimates values according to knowledge of the market price.
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
- Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
- May work with manufacturers or persuade potential vendors to undertake the manufacturing of custom-designed items according to user's specific needs and specifications.
- May approve invoices for payment.
- May expedite the delivery of goods to users.
- Manage reorder points.

Physical requirement:
- Ability to sustain prolonged use of a computer

Role dimensions
- Monday thru Friday
- This position requires on-site work at the Winnemucca office until management determines eligibility for a minimum of three days per week in the office
Your qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years in an administrative, supply chain, or materials management role preferred
- 2 years’ experience with a common ERP, planning, and procurement systems preferred
