About the role

We are excited to announce a new opportunity as a Training Specialist within the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals team at our sodium cyanide manufacturing facility in Winnemucca, NV.

 

The Training Specialist plays a critical role in supporting safe, compliant, and efficient operations at our sodium cyanide manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining training programs that ensure employees have the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to work safely in a high hazard chemical environment. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, proactive, organised and comfortable collaborating with operations, maintenance, engineering, and SHES teams and external stakeholders

What you will be doing

Training Program Development & Delivery

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve training programs for plant personnel, including onboarding, job specific skills, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver engaging classroom, hands on, and field based training sessions.
  • Develop training materials such as manuals, SOP summaries, visual aids, and competency assessments.
  • Ensure training content aligns with plant procedures, corporate standards, and applicable regulations.

 

Safety & Compliance

  • Compliance with all company SHES requirements and has an excellent safety acumen.
  • Upholds all company values.
  • Support training related to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state regulatory requirements relevant to chemical manufacturing.
  • Maintain accurate training records and documentation to support audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with EHS teams to reinforce safe work practices, emergency response readiness, and hazard awareness.
  • Participate in incident reviews to identify training gaps and implement corrective actions.

 

Operational Support

  • Work closely with operations and maintenance supervisors to identify skill gaps and training needs.
  • Assist in developing competency based qualification programs for operators and technicians.
  • Support rollout of new equipment, processes, or technologies by creating and delivering appropriate training.
  • Conduct field observations to verify proper application of training and provide coaching as needed.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics.
  • Update training materials to reflect procedure changes, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, accountability, and operational excellence.

What you will bring

Required:

  • Experience in industrial training, workforce development, or technical instruction.
  • Strong understanding of safety principles and regulatory frameworks in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Excellent understanding of ongoing Nevada OSHA training requirements.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to translate technical information into clear, accessible training content.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and digital training tools.
  • Good IT skills that include Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, mining, or another high hazard industry.
  • Knowledge of process operations, mechanical systems, or industrial equipment.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, Training Within Industry (TWI), or similar.
  • Experience developing competency based training programs.

Work Environment

  • This role is based on site at a sodium cyanide production facility.
  • Requires regular presence in operational areas, including outdoor and industrial environments.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and participate in emergency response drills.
