About the role - Permit to Work Operator (Winnemucca, NV)

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Permit to Work Operator within our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals (SMC) team in Winnemucca, Nevada.

The Permit to Work Operator provides critical operations support by preparing and issuing daily Permit to Work (PTW) certificates for maintenance, project, and turnaround activities. This role also supports the operation of the solids plant wastewater RO treatment system. They also provide on‑plant support for solids plant overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvement initiatives, contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Role dimensions

• Monday through Friday, full‑time schedule.
• This is a full‑time, hourly, on‑site position.
• The site operates two sodium cyanide (NaCN) solution plants and one NaCN solids plant.
• Reporting to the Operations Manager – Production, the Operations Daywork Support Specialist works collaboratively with product line team members and cross‑functional site teams to support the site’s permit‑to‑work program and solids plant operational objectives, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
• This position is an integral member of the Winnemucca NaCN Product Line team.

Work environment

• Work is performed in both outdoor and indoor environments with adequate ventilation.
• May involve exposure to fumes or airborne particles such as dust, smoke, or other air contaminants.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and required for all employees.
• Moderate noise levels are typical, especially when working near operating equipment.

What you will be doing

• Support the safe execution of work by ensuring all safety, health, and environmental (SHE) requirements are clearly understood and consistently followed by Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) Receivers and their work teams.
• Participate in proactive audits and inspections of permit‑to‑work activities to verify compliance with approved permits, risk assessments, and required control measures.
• Prepare and issue Permit‑to‑Work certificates for project and turnaround activities, including advance preparation and coordination of permit documentation to support planned plant shutdowns and complex scopes of work.
• Apply the Stop and Think safety methodology prior to undertaking tasks, with a strong focus on activities within the solids plant and wastewater RO treatment plant to ensure hazards are identified and risks are effectively managed.
• Prepare, review, and issue Permit‑to‑Work certificates for routine maintenance and operational activities, authorizing PTW Receivers to perform specific work and clearly defining the conditions under which the work may proceed.

• Ability to climb stairs, ramps, and similar structures as required to access work areas.
• Capable of performing frequent repetitive motions, including the use of wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Able to perform sustained computer and screen‑based work for extended periods of time.
