About the role - Permit to Work Operator (Winnemucca, NV)
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Permit to Work Operator within our Specialty Mining Chemicals team.
The Permit to Work Operator is responsible for providing Operations support through preparing and issuing daily Permit to Work certificates for maintenance and project activities, operation of the solids plant wastewater RO treatment plant, and on-plant support for solids plant OEE improvement activities.

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E)
- Assist with ensuring safety, health, and environmental procedures are adhered to by permit-to-work receivers and their work teams
- Participate in proactive auditing of permit-to-work activities
- Using the Stop and Think safety methodology before undertaking tasks in the solids plant wastewater RO treatment plant and the solids plant
Permit to Work (PTW)
- Prepare and issue PTW certificates for daily maintenance and operations activities, which authorise PTW Receivers to conduct specific work and specify the conditions under which the work must proceed
- Prepare and issue PTW certificates for project and turnaround activities, including the preparation of documentation in advance of plant shutdown events
Solids Plant Wastewater RO Treatment Plant Operation
- Monitoring operations and tank levels for the RO system
- Start and stop operations of the RO system & its recirc system
- Sample collection and testing of the RO system water

- Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel. Actively listens to others, asks questions to verify understanding, and use tact and consideration when delivering feedback to others

Role dimensions
Operating Environment
- Our operation is comprised of two NaCN solution plants and one NaCN solids plant
- Reporting to the Site Manager - Production, the Operations Daywork Support Specialist works collaboratively with product line team members and other site teams to contribute to meeting the site’s permit to work and solids plant operating objectives in a safe and sustainable manner
- This role is a member of the Winnemucca NaCN Product Line team
- This position is on-site Monday-Friday
Your qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two to five years of chemical plant experience, preferred
- Familiarity with chemical plant equipment such as valves, pumps, piping and flanges, pressure, temperature, level and flow meters
- Knowledge standards and safety protocols for hazardous environments
