About the role – Mobile Fleet Technician (Winnemucca, Nevada)

 

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join Orica as a Mobile Fleet Technician within our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals (SMC) team in Winnemucca, Nevada.

 

In this role, the Mobile Fleet Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, movement, and readiness of transportation and logistics equipment across the production site. The position ensures incoming equipment is received, inspected, and positioned in designated storage or yard locations. The technician will manage the segregation of loaded and empty units, stage loaded equipment for outbound customer shipments, and prepare or repair ISO containers as required.

 

The role also involves conducting routine inspections of logistics and fleet equipment, identifying defects or maintenance needs, and coordinating with maintenance teams to ensure equipment remains compliant, operational, and ready to support production and customer delivery requirements.

Work schedule

 

  • This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position
  • Monday through Friday

Work environment

 

  • Work is performed in both outdoor and indoor warehouse environments with appropriate ventilation.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, ice, rain, and wind.
  • Potential exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, or other airborne particles.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and required for all employees.
  • Moderate noise levels may be present due to proximity to operating vehicles, machinery, and equipment.

What you will be doing

 

  • Learn and develop a solid understanding of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and processes related to logistics functions and yard/equipment movement.
  • Gain working knowledge of and follow procedures and driving rules related to ground operations, including rail movement and ISO operations.
  • Train to operate the shuttle wagon and reach stacker, strictly adhering to all SOPs and working under the direction of a supervisor or qualified trainer.
  • Operate the yard dog, including connecting and disconnecting chassis, and follow all applicable driving rules and safety requirements.
  • Perform pre‑preparation work on ISO containers in accordance with established SOPs.
  • Inspect ISO tanks and chassis upon return when empty and again after loading.
  • Coordinate with Transwood regarding chassis maintenance and repair (M&R) items and report findings to the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate data logs for ISO 2.5‑year and 5‑year inspection requirements to ensure KPI targets are met.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections of equipment (including forklifts, rail movers, reach stackers, yard dogs, aerial lifts, etc.) to identify damage, wear, leaks, or low fluid levels and to monitor overall equipment condition.
  • Report required repairs or maintenance needs to the supervisor and/or maintenance team.
  • Provide housekeeping and grounds maintenance as needed, including maintaining work areas and supporting site upkeep (e.g., weed control).
  • Actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
