About the role

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Learning and Development Specialist within our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals Team. 

 

The Site Learning and Development Specialist is key role that is responsible for all aspects of learning and development at the Winnemucca Sodium Cyanide Production Plant with an emphasis placed on safety and health, protection of the environment and economics, converting raw materials into liquid sodium cyanide and ensuring timely shipments to the customers. The position requires a high level of responsiveness and commitment, ensuring support is available when needed to maintain smooth operations and address any urgent matters.
 

What you will be doing

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E):

  1. Participate is site risk assessments and incident investigations as needed.
  2. Complete job cycle checks (JCCs).
  3. Complete Safety Leadership Interactions (SLIs).

 

Curriculum Development:

  1. Perform curriculum development and maintenance for site training courses.

 

Training Planning and Coordination:

  1. Manage the development of the site learning and development strategy.
  2. Develop and maintain training schedules that complement site operations and maintenance needs.
  3. Schedule / coordinate off site training with local venues in Winnemucca.

 

Training Delivery:

  1. Responsible for the development and delivery of site-based training for the Winnemucca Sodium Cyanide Plant.
  2. Develop and deliver onboarding training for new hires

 

Skill Development:

  1. Manage the employee development plans for operations and
  2. Identify and schedule employee professional develop
  3. Participate in employee Individual Development Plan meetings

 

Auditing and Evaluations:

  1. Conduct knowledge assessments and competency checks as needed or requested to ensure adherence to procedures, quality, and safety standards.
  2. Perform periodic instructor evaluations.

 

Team Support and Communication:

  1. Act as the central training and development resource for resolving training and development issues among departments.
  2. Coordinate training implementation with the operations and maintenance departments, focusing on developing essential skills in key operational areas.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  1. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  2. Participate in Identifying and implementing process improvements to reduce waste and optimize resources.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, training and development or equivalent.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience managing Learning and Development processes in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of formal classroom training delivery.
  • Ability to present site wide training to large groups of employees and contractors in a public setting.
  • Ability to develop learning and development strategies & initiatives to help drive business goals and objectives.
  • Ability to think creatively and approach production issues from different perspectives to find safe and timely solutions.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Ability to Manage a site Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to perform various types of electronic record keeping.
  • Ability to perform instructor evaluations.
  • Ability to develop training curriculum.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel. Actively listens to others, asks questions to verify understanding, and use tact and consideration when delivering feedback to others.

Operating Environment
Cyanco’s Winnemucca operation is comprised of two NaCN solutions plants and one NaCN solids plant. This role reports to the Operations Manager. The Site Learning and Development Specialist works collaboratively with the site leadership and departmental work groups to support and complement the safe production of Sodium Cyanide.

Salary to be determined by the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
