About the role
The Engineer – Control Systems is accountable for maintaining correct operation of all Operational Technology (OT) systems across the Winnemucca Site, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Key activities include:
- Provide engineering support and technical knowledge to support all aspects of the Operational Technology systems, including OT security and business applications interfacing with corporate IT systems.
- Have or develop a detailed understanding of processes being controlled & managed to ensure efficient and high level of collaboration with discipline contributors and other stakeholders.
- Identification and rectification of Operational Technology issues that could result in production, process, safety, environmental or OT (Operational Technology) security problems.
To achieve these outcomes, the incumbent will work closely with members of the site Operations, Maintenance and Technical teams, as well as the Global Technical & IT functions and external technology vendors/consultants.
What you will be doing
The Engineer – Control Systems, will be responsible for:
- Ensuring that all safety, health, environmental and security procedures are maintained and adhered to by users of the Operational Technology systems.
- Leading site adoption of the OT Cyber Security Requirements, including improvement activities and cyber security documentation which establish a baseline cyber security model.
- Developing business cases supporting technology initiatives which drive efficiency, standardise technology and provide equipment performance insights in order to lower operating costs, increase equipment OEE and strengthen safety outcomes.
- Supporting delivery of the global IT & OT digital strategies through implementation of new technologies and technology life cycle management, including deprecation of obsolete systems.
- Participating in HAZOP, CHAZOP, LOPA and other risk assessments activities which have an OT or control system component to ensure functional safety & cyber security compliance, minimise business risk and increase process safety outcomes.
- Leading assessment & execution of capital improvements to maintain integrity and relevance of SIS/DCS/PLC hardware and software systems, including cyber security requirements.
- Participating and contributing to Alarm Management improvements and reporting through ownership of the alarm management applications in use onsite.
- Implementing and managing a site-based Software Change Request (SCR) system that adheres to the Management of change (MOC) procedure.
- Maintaining high quality site documentation such as drawings, detailed design documents and control system procedures.
- Perform the role of the Manufacturing Centre’s Responsible Engineer for SIS & Cyber Security
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Process Control or Mechatronics Engineering
- 5+ years experience, in design, commissioning, continuous improvement and maintenance of OT and automation systems.
- Advanced working knowledge of Yokogawa ‘Centum’ DCS (Disbributed Control Systems) and ‘Pro-Safe’ SIS platforms.
- Basic level of IT, cyber security and networking fundamental knowledge is required.
- Knowledge of Functional Safety requirements and lifecycle management as per IEC61508 & IEC61511, preferred.
- Sound knowledge of manufacturing principles, safe working practices and project management.
- Experience working within a manufacturing site-based context and an understanding of chemical manufacturing processes in particular, sodium cyanide production.
