About the role - Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (Winnemucca, NV)

 

We are excited to announce a new opportunity at Orica for an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician within the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals team.


The Instrument and Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Winnemucca manufacturing processes. The Instrument and Electrical Technician works closely with the maintenance, and product line teams to support production goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimise downtime due to instrumentation or electrical issues.
 

What you will be doing

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E)

  • Adhere to electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements during all maintenance activities. 
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and training programs to promote a safe work environment.

 

Maintenance and Repair: 

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on instrumentation and electrical equipment such as sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLCs, motor control centres, and other related devices.
  • Troubleshooting: 
  • Diagnose instrumentation and electrical equipment problems using appropriate tools and techniques. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore functionality and prevent recurrence.

 

Calibration: 

  • Calibrate instrumentation devices and control systems according to Orica procedures and standards. Ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements to maintain process efficiency and quality.
  • Installation and Commissioning: 
  • Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new instrumentation and electrical equipment. Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure installations meet design specifications and safety requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: 
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, calibrations, and equipment performance. As required, generate reports detailing equipment status, maintenance schedules, and recommendations for improvement.

 

Emergency Response: 

  • Respond promptly to instrumentation and electrical equipment emergencies and participate in troubleshooting and repair efforts to minimise production disruptions and ensure plant safety.

What you will bring

 

  • 4 years of trade qualification in electrical & instrumentation 
  • Proven experience as an Instrument & Electrical Technician in a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting instrumentation loops, control systems (e.g., DCS, PLCs) and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with process instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, flow meters, and analysers.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards and safety protocols for hazardous environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel.

Operating Environment

 

  • Cyanco’s Winnemucca operation is comprised of two NaCN solutions plants and one NaCN solids plant.
  • Reporting to the Maintenance Execution Superintendent, the Instrument and Electrical Technician works collaboratively with maintenance team members and other site teams to ensure that the site’s maintenance and plant uptime objectives are achieved in a safe and sustainable manner.
  • This role is a member of the Winnemucca Maintenance team.
