About the role

We are excited to announce a key opportunity at Orica for a Senior Rust Developer within our Digital Solutions team. Orica’s Digital Solutions seamlessly connects our customers’ physical and digital worlds so they can readily understand and optimise their operations at every step of the value chain, from exploration to processing, empowering smarter, data-driven decisions. Our business is profitable with a large growth potential.

We seek a Senior Rust Developer who loves working in a diverse team solving complex problems with simple solutions. You will work with Product Managers, Engineers, Business Analysts, UX and Subject Matter Experts to implement our pioneering solutions. Your role will involve bringing creative solutions to a level of polish and experience worthy of enterprise deployment ensuring seamless integration of our software with the practical needs of our customers. 

You will be based in Australia and work with other teams geographically distributed across Australia and overseas. We are very flexible on location, remote work and office locations.

What you will be doing

• Collaborating with the product team to develop solutions.
• Understanding and industrialising cutting-edge algorithms.
• Building user experiences that delight customers.
• Working with a supportive remote team on flexible work arrangements.

What you will bring

• You love programming Rust.
• You’re comfortable writing high performance algorithms.
• You have a strong understanding of Rust's ownership model, borrowing, and lifetimes.
• You have built scalable, high-performance systems using Rust.
• You are familiar with asynchronous programming in Rust.
• You are familiar with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and delivering high-quality software solutions.
• You have experience building user interfaces and workflows.
• Experience in spatial and temporal data is desirable.
