About the role
As an R&D Support Engineer within Orica’s Digital Solutions, Orebody Intelligence (OBI) group, located in Welshpool, WA, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary engineering team to help document, build, test, and sustain innovative geophysical and digital mining technologies. This hands-on role provides direct technical support to the engineering design group across manufacturing, quality assurance, and testing, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
You will play an active part in New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring a smooth transition from engineering design to commercial production.

What you will be doing
- Providing hands-on technical support across system assembly, integration, maintenance, and lifecycle activities.
- Assisting with quality assurance, verification/validation testing, and root cause analysis for technical issues.
- Supporting R&D evaluations and contributing to design improvements through data collection and analysis.
- Helping develop and maintain documentation including BOMs, assembly/test procedures, and calibration guides.
- Facilitating New Product Introduction (NPI) and ensuring accurate records of builds, configurations, and quality results.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and coordinating with Supply Chain to resolve issues and ensure material availability.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electronics discipline.
- Practical hands-on experience in assembly and system integration (mechanical and electronics).
- Strong practical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with a CAD package.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation and working knowledge of Bill of Materials.
- Clear communication skills and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Task ownership with strong attention to safety, detail, and quality.
