About our Yarwun Manufacturing Facility


Orica’s Yarwun Manufacturing Facility, located near Gladstone, is one of our most significant manufacturing sites globally and plays a critical role in supplying chemicals to support mining and infrastructure projects across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

The facility is proudly embedded in the Gladstone community, directly employing over 250 local people and offering long term careers in a safe, high performing environment, with strong involvement in local industry, education, and community initiatives.

About the role


We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Specialist – SHES to join our Yarwun site based team. In this role, you will be a trusted safety leader, partnering closely with site leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement across personal safety on-site. You will also work closely with your peers to support health, environment, security and emergency response compliance and improvement initiatives.

This is a hands on, influential role suited to an experienced SHES professional who enjoys working in a complex, high risk manufacturing environment and making a visible impact every day. At the discretion of the business, the role operates on a 9 day fortnight roster, allowing you to enjoy a day off every two weeks.

What you will be doing

 

  • Ensure site compliance with relevant safety legislation, regulatory obligations, and Orica SHES standards;
  • Drive the implementation and embedment of Orica’s SHES Management Systems, with a strong focus on personal safety;
  • Coach and support leaders in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action management;
  • Identify current and emerging safety risks and support the site to implement effective preventive and mitigating controls;
  • Lead and deliver safety improvement initiatives and assigned projects across the Yarwun site;
  • Engage with regulators, industry groups and the local community to support strong stakeholder relationships.

What you will bring

 

  • A degree or diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum Certificate IV in WHS);
  • Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or other high risk operational environments;
  • Strong working knowledge of local WHS legislation and regulatory compliance frameworks;
  • Lead Incident Investigation certification (e.g. ICAM);
  • Experience working in or supporting a Major Hazard Facility (highly regarded);
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), influencing and coaching skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the business.
