About the role
To safely and efficiently plan, prepare, and execute blasting operations in mining or construction environments, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
What you will be doing
Blast Planning & Design
- Conduct QAQC on proposed blocks for blasting and ensure accurate data is loaded on BlastIQ
- Design drill patterns and blast loading specifications
- Collaborate with geologists and engineers to determine optimal blast locations
Blast Execution
- Load and connect explosives and detonators
- Conduct pre-blast safety inspections
- Operate detonation equipment and execute blasts
- Monitor environmental impact and vibration levels
Post-Blast Activities
- Inspect blast sites for effectiveness and safety
- Identify and report misfires or hazards
- Maintain detailed records of blast operations
Safety & Compliance
- Handle, store, and transport explosives per regulations
- Ensure compliance with relevant Mining Regulations and Explosives Regulations
- Secure blast zones and issue warnings before detonation
Team Collaboration
- Work with drill operators, surveyors, and truck drivers
- Train and mentor junior technicians
What you will bring
- 3-5 years of experience in mining or construction blasting
- Strong understanding of explosives, detonation systems, and safety protocols
- Physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor, rugged environments
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
Your qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in blasting preferred
- Certification or licensing in blasting operations (e.g., MSHA, Certified Blaster)
