About The Role – 39444 - Shotfirer (Sudbury, ON)

 

We are currently seeking a Shotfirer to join our team supporting Vale's Stobie mine operations in Sudbury, Ontario.

 

In this hands-on role, you will play a critical part in safe and efficient blasting operations, including the delivery of materials, loading and blasting activities, explosives inventory management, equipment inspections, and customer support. You'll work closely with site teams to ensure operational excellence while maintaining Orica's industry-leading safety standards.

 

Schedule
7 Days On / 7 Days Off – Day Shift
Schedule subject to operational requirements.

 

Location
Sudbury, Ontario
Open-pit mining environment within Sudbury city limits.

What you will be doing

 

Safety Leadership
•    Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
•    Follow all blasting, transportation, and site safety procedures.
•    Report hazards, incidents, and environmental concerns promptly.
•    Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
•    Maintain equipment, work areas, and PPE in accordance with company standards.

 

Blasting Operations
•    Support safe and efficient blasting activities.
•    Execute blasting procedures in accordance with applicable regulations and company policies.
•    Provide high-quality service to internal and external customers.
•    Maintain a valid General Explosives Permit.
•    Perform additional blasting-related duties as required.

 

Equipment & Vehicle Operations
•    Conduct pre-operational and post-operational equipment inspections.
•    Maintain vehicles and mobile equipment in safe operating condition.
•    Operate motorized material handling equipment, including wheel loaders.
•    Support preventative maintenance practices.

 

Explosives Magazine Operations
•    Load, unload, and transport explosive products safely.
•    Maintain explosives inventory and supporting documentation.
•    Ensure explosives storage facilities are secure, organized, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
•    Complete required records and documentation accurately.

What you will bring

 

Required Qualifications

•    Minimum 6 months of experience in a similar role.
•    Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License.
•    Valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification.
•    Valid General Explosives Permit.
•    Experience handling technical explosives equipment.
•    Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

 

Preferred


•    Experience in surface mining or blasting operations.
•    Experience working in a mining environment.

Compensation

•    $43.00 CAD per hour


If you have direct industry experience, your pay rate may be reviewed.
Compensation is determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations.
