About the role
We are thrilled to announce that we are seeking a Specialist - SHES based in our Orica Almaty Office, Kazakhstan. This role provides regional specialist expertise within the relevant department of the regional SHES team. The Specialist will execute systems, procedures, and initiatives, incorporating identified leading practices in line with Orica's global requirements and regional priorities, while ensuring legislative compliance. Additionally, the Specialist will support and guide risk management strategies, identify and implement improvement strategies, and report to the SHES Manager.
What you will be doing
- Implement, manage, and monitor Orica SHES (Safety, Health, Environment, Security) programs.
- Support sites and country management in achieving Orica SHES KPIs.
- Inspect workplaces for compliance with Orica and Republic of Kazakhstan SHES requirements; report findings to company management.
- Assist site managers with correcting SHES non-compliances identified during inspections.
- Conduct SHES audits at Orica Kazakhstan sites; report results, develop corrective actions, and assist with implementation.
- Develop and implement SHES procedures at Orica Kazakhstan sites in line with legal and corporate requirements.
- Report all SHES near miss events and incidents in accordance with local legal and Orica corporate requirements; prepare and distribute initial notifications.
- Participate in SHES near miss and incident investigations; lead investigations using the 5-Why method.
- Support the contractor selection process and perform pre-qualification assessments.
- Monitor and manage the Orica Major Hazards Management (MHM) program; train site leaders and employees, inspect program efficiency, and develop corrective actions.
- Manage key controls verification process for Orica Kazakhstan sites.
- Gather, analyze, and prepare information for weekly and monthly SHES reports.
- Conduct risk assessments for tasks and projects at Orica Kazakhstan sites.
- Participate in Hazard Study processes for new projects.
- Conduct training for Orica Kazakhstan country and site management on various SHES topics (JSERA, Management of Change, SLI, MHM).
- Supervise the Management of Change process for site modifications.
- Support the work of Orica Kazakhstan SHES Advisors.
- Work in the SHES information system Enablon.
- Assume direct responsibility over SHES advisors; manage and support as necessary.
What you will bring
- Proficiency in English (B2 level or higher).
- 3-5 years of experience in health and safety.
- Good understanding of international health and safety tools and systems.
- Safety or technical higher education.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to deliver training in an engaging manner.
- Workplace auditing skills.
- Workplace incident investigation skills.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% of work time.
