About the role
Are you ready to lead with impact and drive operational excellence? We’re looking for a passionate and experienced team member to step into the role of Site Supervisor – Open Cut at our Shah Alam site!
As the Site Supervisor, you’ll be at the forefront of our operations—supervising Orica teams, plant, and ancillary equipment to ensure seamless service delivery. You’ll champion our SHES (Safety, Health, Environment & Security) standards, drive full adoption of CHECKPOINT, and uphold our Quality programs with precision and pride.
What you will be doing
Safety, Health, Environment & Security:
- Active management of SHES programs including on-the-job and on-site verifications/checks
- Ensure compliance to Orica Group Standards and Group Procedures that apply to the Site are reviewed on an annual basis.
- Pro-actively address any safety concerns and ensure Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times.
- Ensure Work Permits/ SHES permits are completed before any work is carried out on Site.
- Provide information for reporting any injuries/accidents immediately.
- Communicate Orica Safety standards to employees, vendors, and customers.
- Ensures that all equipment is in good, safe operating condition.
- Direct SHES and compliance activities.
- Performance Measures: Reduce number of accidents, incidents and near misses both with employees and vehicles.
Financial Management:
- Provide analytical/decision support to Senior Site Supervisor on continuous improvement plan for decreasing operational costs.
- Participate in the short, medium, and long-term planning activities of the site.
- Performance Measures: Meet fixed cost budgets on a yearly basis.
People Development:
- Pro-actively recruit, select, train and retain employees with key skills.
- Ensure mandatory training of all employees is completed and documented. Manage employee training plans.
- Document all training activities, develop, motivate and supervise employees for performance to full potential while safely providing customer service.
- Complete objective setting and performance evaluations of all staff.
- Performance Measures: Demonstrate upgraded talent and competencies of the organization through people.
Site Operations:
- Complete mandatory monthly inventory counts and reconciliations, safety meetings, and ensure all actions assigned to the Site are completed as required in Orica system.
- Ensure that delivery of bulk explosive products is in accordance with established process specifications, conducting timely quality control checks to maintain standards and compliance.
- Report product quality issues promptly and accurately and actively support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations to identify underlying problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Audit and inspect site operations to ensure regulatory requirements are met and are performed safely in accordance company policies.
- Ensure that good housekeeping, record keeping, and preventative maintenance programs are in place.
- Assist in preparation of fixed cost budgets, capital expenditures, staffing, equipment requirements, and a updated Resource Model.
- Analyse site inventories to minimize product quantities and improve site profitability through stock rotation and management.
- Schedule daily activities of employees to meet customer requirements and ensure proper management of site including raw material ordering, and preventative maintenance.
- Communicate and develop/implement action plan to address any operational issues with Operations Manager.
- Effectively communicate and manage all outside regulatory agency audits/inspections and implement necessary action plans as required.
Customer Service:
Regular and timely communications/scheduling with customers seeking opportunities for improving Orica services.
What you will bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with strong understanding of equipment operation and maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in blasting operations and over 5 years in team management.
- In-depth knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental standards, including relevant regulations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multi-cultural teams.
- Proven ability to plan strategically and anticipate future project needs.
