About the role
We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer – Technical Services to join our team at Customer Site at the Kansanshi Project site in Zambia, Africa.
In this role, you will provide expert support in Drill & Blast engineering for open-pit mining operations, delivering measurable value through optimized blast design, risk mitigation, and operational excellence. You’ll be working closely with site teams, leading safety initiatives, and driving technical innovation aligned with our sustainability and performance standards.
This is a high-impact role with regional coverage, offering the chance to collaborate across multiple sites and influence key operational outcomes.

What you will be doing
- Lead safety and compliance initiatives on-site, promoting SHEC standards and conducting risk assessments using Orica’s methodologies.
- Optimize blast design and explosive selection tailored to site-specific requirements, while training teams on best practices.
- Monitor and analyze blast performance using advanced tools such as seismographs, drone imagery, and fragmentation analysis systems.
- Deliver technical workshops and presentations, support product trials, and contribute to innovation and value delivery programs.
- Build strong relationships with mine site personnel, providing expert support and capturing value through case studies and performance reporting.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Earth Sciences, with postgraduate studies considered an advantage.
- Proficiency in advanced blast modeling tools and initiation systems, along with a solid understanding of risk assessment and regulatory compliance.
- 5-7 years of experience in Drill & Blast engineering within open-pit mining, with a strong track record of technical excellence and operational impact.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor direct reports, fostering collaboration and performance across technical teams.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working closely with customers, technical heads, and operational teams to deliver value.
