About the role

 

We’re looking for a Lead – Financial Controlling to play a pivotal role in safeguarding financial integrity across Orica’s operating, investment, and statutory entities.

In this role, you’ll lead financial accounting and controlling activities across country, regional, and group levels—ensuring compliance with accounting standards, Orica Group policies, and robust financial controls. Your work will underpin strong governance, accurate reporting, and confident decision‑making across the organisation.

Partnering closely with senior business leaders, Global Business Services (GBS) teams, Tax, Treasury, and external stakeholders, you’ll act as a trusted advisor—balancing technical excellence with commercial insight to drive value creation and financial discipline across the business.

What you will be doing

 

Financial Reporting, Accounting & Control

  • Prepare, review, and consolidate business unit and legal entity financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, and Cash Flow).
  • Manage General Ledger activities including period-end close, account reviews, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with accounting standards, Orica accounting policies, and Group Standards.
  • Embed and maintain effective internal controls across all relevant systems and processes.
  • Lead asset capitalisation, physical asset verification, and impairment testing.
  • Manage accounting treatment for leases, including Right-of-Use (ROU) assets.
  • Maintain robust intercompany accounting and reconciliation processes (via GBS where applicable).


Assurance, Audit & Governance

  • Lead the bi-annual assurance process, including Balance Sheet reviews and Letters of Assurance.
  • Lead internal and external audits at local, regional, and group levels.
  • Act as primary contact for external auditors; manage audit scope, timelines, fees, and deliverables.
  • Ensure audit packs are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Ensure compliance with Orica standards, policies, segregation of duties, and delegated financial authorities.


Statutory, Tax & Treasury

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of quarterly and annual statutory filings, shareholder reports, and legal entity accounts.
  • Support Investor Relations and Joint Venture statutory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Orica Tax Group to provide information for tax compliance.
  • Manage treasury-related reporting requirements.
  • Manage dividend paper preparation and approval processes where applicable.


Business & Performance Support

  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and group reporting processes.
  • Evaluate and manage financial performance at country, regional, or group level.
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making and optimise financial outcomes.
  • Support working capital management, including trade and non-trade working capital.
  • Support finance transformation initiatives, cost optimisation programs, and ad hoc finance projects.
  • Collaborate with regional and functional teams to maximise value from commercial contracts.

What you will bring

 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
  • Professional accounting designation such as CA, CPA, or CMA.
  • Proven experience in a large, complex, global organisation, performing a similar role.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with the ability to lead, coach, and influence teams.
  • 8+ years of post‑graduate experience in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong technical expertise with a deep understanding of accounting standards.
  • Hands‑on experience with SAP and advanced Excel, essential for success in the role.
