About the role
We’re on the lookout for an experienced Underground Senior Blasting Technician or Technical Service Engineer to join our team on projects across New Zealand. This role is ideal for skilled Shotfirers who are ready to take the next step from operations into technical services.
While the role is based in New Zealand, we’re open to FIFO arrangements from NSW or Tasmania, with flexible roster options like 8/6 or 2/2.
Our Blasting Technicians are at the face of our company, and assist our customers and operations teams by providing technical expertise and input on blasting on a variety of client mine sites. They play a key role in optimising and revolutionising the way our customers mine, and play an important role in bringing our technology to life on our customer sites all over the world.
The successful candidate will interface with a diverse group of customers and sites, providing technical solutions on the application of our products. Customers look to our Technical Services team to solve practical blasting challenges, allowing our people to showcase their technical skills and create discreet solutions for clients.
What you will be doing
- Lead and manage technical blasting projects to deliver measurable value to our clients;
- Build and maintain long-term partnerships with Orica’s customer stakeholders;
- Provide expert support for customers’ blasting technical requirements;
- Interface with key customer sites to deliver tailored technical solutions;
- Take ownership of project outcomes and consistently deliver outstanding results;
- Continuously develop your technical knowledge of our products and services.
What you will bring
- Extensive experience in underground Shotfiring/Charge-up, including emulsion and electronic detonator use;
- Strong practical background in drill & blast operations, ideally across both Development and Production;
- Solid understanding of underground mining operations and safety standards;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a high-performing team;
- A commitment to customer partnership and accountability in all aspects of your work;
- A proactive attitude toward learning and skill development;
- A continuous improvement mindset, always seeking better ways to deliver value.
