About the role

The Site Supervisor – Underground & Plant is responsible for supervising on-site Orica teams, plant operations, and ancillary equipment in accordance with service level agreements, corporate standards, and regulatory requirements. This role ensures full implementation of Orica SHES requirements, complete adoption of CHECKPOINT and Quality programs, and overall accountability for safe and efficient site operations.

The role oversees daily, weekly, and monthly downstream manufacturing plans to ensure quality product availability in line with S&OP requirements, leads downstream production activities on site, and assumes overall operational accountability for the Palu Site.

What you will be doing

  • Provide analytical and decision support to the Area Manager to drive continuous improvement initiatives and reduce operational costs.
  • Participate in short-, medium-, and long-term site planning activities.
  • Ensure completion of mandatory monthly inventory counts, reconciliations, safety meetings, and the annual Letter of Assurance, with all site actions tracked and closed in required systems.
  • Audit and inspect site operations to ensure regulatory compliance and safe execution in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Ensure all mandatory employee training is completed, documented, and aligned with site and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage employee training plans, document training activities, and lead, motivate, and develop employees to perform safely and effectively.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, record keeping, and preventative maintenance across the site.
  • Support preparation of fixed cost budgets, capital expenditure planning, staffing, equipment requirements, and maintain an updated Resource Model.
  • Analyse site inventory levels to optimise stock rotation, minimise working capital, and improve site profitability.
  • Schedule daily workforce activities to meet customer requirements, including raw material ordering and preventative maintenance coordination.
  • Identify operational issues and develop and implement effective corrective action plans.
  • Lead and manage regulatory agency audits and inspections, ensuring timely implementation of required action plans.
  • Maintain and grow customer accounts safely and profitably while meeting corporate objectives and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate regularly with customers to identify opportunities to enhance Orica service delivery.
  • Ensure products meet required quality and volume targets on an hourly and daily basis.
  • Communicate and manage deviations from production plans, including plant trip notifications and recovery timelines.
  • Ensure plant operations remain within defined safe operating and efficiency windows.
  • Ensure all non-compliances are reported, investigated, and resolved.
  • Maximise plant operating time through effective process planning integrated with maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Execute planned and unplanned plant preparation activities, including permit-to-work processes, to support safe and efficient maintenance and shutdown execution.
  • Conduct regular scheduled and unscheduled plant and equipment inspections, formalising findings, actions, and follow-up.

What you will bring

  • Minimum of 7 years’ post-qualification experience in operational or manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience leading teams and fostering a collaborative, safety-focused culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic, operational, and commercial acumen supported by sound judgement.
  • Ability to plan, influence, and execute in a complex operational environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present recommendations and operational logic to key stakeholders.
  • Experience using technical and functional business systems such as SAP, SuccessFactors, Concur, analytics/visualisation tools, and engineering software.
  • Strong understanding of Mining Safety Management Systems, with safety consistently prioritised as a core value.
