About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our team supporting underground mining operations in Navan, Ireland. Working as part of a small, highly collaborative maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing bulk explosives pumping systems and associated equipment used in underground mining environments.

This is a hands-on role that requires a strong mechanical background, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work independently in a safety-critical environment. While the primary focus is mechanical maintenance, knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, and industrial controls would be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting equipment reliability, operational uptime, and safe production outcomes while working closely with operational and maintenance stakeholders underground.

What you will be doing

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair bulk explosives pumping equipment and associated mechanical systems used in underground mining operations.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability and availability.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults, supporting operational continuity and minimising downtime.
• Assist in identifying and resolving electrical and PLC-related issues where required, collaborating with specialist support teams as necessary.
• Support maintenance planning and execution activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to maintenance call-outs outside standard working hours when required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Work collaboratively across site functions, supporting operational requirements beyond core trade responsibilities when needed.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all Safety, Health, Environment and Security (SHES) standards, policies, and procedures.
• Align all activities with Orica’s Charter Values, Purpose, and Strategy.

What you will bring

• Relevant trade qualification, diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Maintenance or a related discipline.
• Experience working in industrial, mining, heavy equipment, maintenance, or similar environments.
• Experience maintaining pumps, hydraulic systems, rotating equipment, or similar mechanical systems.
• Previous underground mining experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, industrial controls, or PLCs would be highly advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
• Ability to work independently and safely in a remote operational environment.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to contribute across multiple operational activities.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Role requirements

• Based on-site in Navan, Ireland.
• Standard working pattern of 48 hours per week.
• Participation in an on-call roster, including out-of-hours and weekend call-outs.
• Ability to work in underground mining environments.
