About the role

 

We are delighted to announce that we are currently seeking applications for an experienced MMU Operators and Shotfirers to join our tight-knit Sprint Operations team in Hunter Valley, NSW!

As a Shotfirer, you will assist and provide direction, supervision, and guidance to the Blast Crew in the process of loading, tying, and firing large shots. As an MMU Operator, you will operate the MMU to pump the explosive product into pre-drilled blast holes on our customer site. This is a Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) position with an equal time roster.

Our Sprint Team are highly experienced and multi-skilled technical blasting specialists who provide advanced level Shotfiring capabilities across many sites within Hunter Valley. This team will manage Orica’s new product trials on our new and existing customer sites, in addition to providing support, guidance and assistance to our on-site blast crews on existing sites during projects, ramp-ups and leave absence.

Our industry-leading training programs offer career advancement, with many former MMU Operators and Shotfirers moving into roles like Supervisors, Territory Managers and Operational Leaders. We also provide opportunities for growth into our technical services team.

What you will be doing

 

As an MMU Operator:

 

  • Operating our MMU vehicle (Mobile Manufacturing Units) and other associated blasting plant and machinery;
  • Assisting with preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with the 'hands-on' delivery of explosive products down pre-drilled blast holes on bench;
  • Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide an excellence in service to our valued customers;
  • Daily administration and customer interactions.

 

As a Shotfirer:

 

  • Providing operational blasting knowledge, direction and advice to Orica’s  blast crews and associated stakeholders;
  • Shotfiring duties including magazine management, managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast designs;
  • Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide excellence in service to our valued customers;
  • Assisting with the training and mentoring of new team members;
  • At all times acting with integrity and respect.

What you will bring

 

As an MMU Operator:

 

  • An unquestionable attitude toward working safely as a priority;
  • Experience operating an MMU, or similar blast delivery vehicle; or
  • Current HR Licence;
  • A positive team-orientated work ethic;
  • A positive attitude to customer service.

 

As a Shotfirer:

 

  • Experience operating as a full shotfirer;
  • Knowledge of explosive and storage regulations;
  • Knowledge of blasting and blasting procedures;
  • Hold a current NSW Explosives Security Clearance;
  • Current HR licence (desirable but not essential);
  • An impeccable safety record and commitment toward safety.
