About the role

Application Engineers are responsible for the governance of IT applications within a defined scope; translating business requirements into solution designs, and facilitating the delivery and support of solutions. 

Area of Responsibility is: LATAM and North America (Americas). 

 

Location: Monclova, Coahuila. (ONSITE WORK)

What you will be doing

  • Deliver and support applications across the Americas portfolio, covering the full lifecycle from scoping and design through deployment, support, and optimization.
  • Design, configure, and develop high‑quality solutions aligned with business needs, architecture standards, security, and governance requirements.
  • Plan, track, and report on delivery scope, schedule, quality, risks, dependencies, and benefits; self-manage small to medium enhancements.
  • Lead release, patching, upgrade, and lifecycle activities, including impact assessment, change management, and business communications.
  • Provide Level 2 application support, including incident resolution, root-cause analysis, proactive maintenance, monitoring, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Manage and coordinate vendors and outsourced partners, ensuring SLA adherence and successful project delivery and transition to support.
  • Engage with business and IT stakeholders to align priorities, ensure ROI, and drive demand and project outcomes.
  • Own knowledge management processes and contribute to cyber vulnerability management, asset management, and application landscape simplification.


The information in this position description is intended to describe the purpose and key accountabilities/responsibilities of work being performed. You may be required to carry out other duties and responsibilities, as allocated by Orica from time to time. Key performance indicators, goals and metrics will be set on a regular basis and amended with your manager as required in line with business requirements 

What you will bring

  • English language (oral and written) to an advanced proficiency, as the global business language of Orica 
  • Spanish language (oral and written) strongly preferred for LATAM; Portuguese beneficial 
  • Tertiary qualification in an IT-related discipline 
  • 2-5 years’ of experience in an IT role; with demonstrated success at designing and supporting applications that solve business problems 
  • Exposure to manufacturing, mining, utilities, or related industries 
  • Experience across: Qualys vulnerability case management and Autodesk/Autodesk Vault support 
  • Strong customer engagement and relationship building skills  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate to both technical and lay audiences  
  • Ability to work independently, or as part of a project / team  
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex business requirements and effectively translate these into applications solutions 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and problem remediation skills 

 

Preferred:

  • Additional languages (oral and written) that are applicable to the geographic area of responsibility 
  • Experience creating and updating Disaster Recovery & SCM documentation for various applications 
  • Exposure to configuration and support of large commercial packages and infratsructure 
  • Competency in both waterfall and agile project methodology 
  • Exposure to global organisations, including remote / distributed teams and line management 
  • Experience in Business Analyst, Service Desk or other IT Support roles
  • Capable of being an active member of a globally-distributed team 
  • Flexibility on working time, to appropriately support the demands and issues of-the-day and to engage with colleagues within a global organisation 
  • Able to work either from an Orica office, or from home 
  • Able to perform occasional visits to alternate operational sites or office locations (generally less than once per month)
