About the role

We are inviting applications for the role of Senior Legal Counsel, AusPac. This critical appointment follows an internal promotion within the legal team, reflecting the opportunities for growth and recognition at Orica.

In this pivotal role, you will partner closely with the AusPac business on complex and high-impact commercial and compliance matters. As a key member of both the AusPac Regional Legal Team and Orica’s globally integrated legal function, you will contribute to strategic decision-making and help drive business outcomes across the region. Reporting to the General Counsel, AusPac you will help shape legal strategy and help drive long-term commercial success across the AusPac region.

This role will suit a senior lawyer with a minimum of 8+ years’ post-qualification experience in private practice and in-house gained in Australia who has strong corporate and commercial legal acumen, a solutions focused approach, and who can successfully operate in a fast-paced environment.

What you will be doing

  • Working closely with the General Counsel, AusPac and the AusPac team on commercial and strategic legal matters impacting Orica.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide array of legal documents (including customer, supply, service, offtake, project and JV agreements).
  • Advising on and negotiating project documentation.
  • Monitoring (and where appropriate, advising on) relevant laws and regulations.
  • Providing advice on and managing litigation and dispute resolution.
  • Support development of Orica precedents, trainings, contract management policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice and direction on any competition law matters affecting the AusPac Region.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing the provision of external legal services.

What you will bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Law (honours preferred)
  • Qualified to practice Law in Australia.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate/projects/commercial legal practice.
  • Experience and expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of anti-bribery and corruption, trade sanctions compliance, and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Proven track record in managing external counsel and improving processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
