About the role

 

As the Lead - People & Capability, you will support the delivery of People & Capability priorities across assigned Global Functions stakeholder groups. Working within Orica’s People & Capability operating model, you will partner with leaders, managers, People Advisory and Centres of Excellence to implement workforce, talent, engagement and organisational initiatives while providing practical day to day people support. 

What you will be doing

 

  • Partner with leaders and people managers to provide practical People & Capability support and implement agreed workforce and people initiatives.
  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and support implementation of people plans across talent, performance, succession, engagement, and organisational change.
  • Support the execution of Global Functions people strategies by identifying workforce impacts, aligning people priorities with business needs, and driving consistent implementation across stakeholder groups.
  • Support workforce planning, talent and succession activities, performance processes, engagement surveys and diversity initiatives by providing insights, analysis and implementation support to leaders within established governance frameworks.
  • Drive the implementation of talent and capability initiatives in partnership with Centres of Excellence, promoting leadership excellence, team effectiveness, and people practices aligned with Orica's values and expectations.
  • Leverage people data, workforce insights, and employee feedback to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, while contributing to workforce reporting and leading projects that drive organisational effectiveness, capability, and diversity outcomes.
  • Support delivery of organisational change initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, change planning, communication, and implementation activities.
  • Provide practical guidance on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and policy interpretation within established governance frameworks. 
  • Identify emerging people related risks and support implementation of agreed mitigation strategies, escalating complex matters through appropriate People & Capability channels. 
  • Collaborate with Centres of Excellence and People Advisory teams to deliver coordinated people solutions, ensuring consistent application of People & Capability frameworks, governance standards, and best practices.
  • Champion and role model Orica’s values, aligning people initiatives, coaching, and decision-making to foster a high-performing and values-driven culture.

What you will bring

 

  • A degree in Human Resources, Business, Employee Relations, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience) is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources, People & Capability, Employee Relations, or an HR Business Partnering environment, supporting leaders in a complex organisation.
  • Experience supporting workforce planning, organisational change, talent initiatives, employee relations, investigations and leader coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, industrial relations, and HR policies, with the ability to work independently, analyse people data and trends, and provide practical insights and recommendations within established frameworks.  
  • Proficiency in HR systems, reporting tools, and Excel is highly desirable.
  • A collaborative and relationship-focused approach, with a proven ability to build trusted partnerships, influence stakeholders, and work effectively across a matrixed organisation.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide pragmatic advice, navigate ambiguity, and manage sensitive people matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, with excellent attention to detail, strong execution skills, and the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality outcomes.
