About the role


Orica is s seeking an External Communications Specialist for a 6-month contract role based in Melbourne. This position plays a pivotal role in delivering high-impact communication strategies that elevate our brand, engage external stakeholders, and support key business initiatives. You’ll be responsible for creating compelling content across multiple platforms, coordinating events, and analysing engagement to drive continuous improvement in communications.

What you will be doing

 

 

  • Support the development and implementation of  a strategic external communications strategy  that builds brand awareness and stakeholder engagement, and protects Orica’s reputation.
  • Support Melbourne-based and global initiatives by producing clear and effective messaging across digital and traditional channels.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to communicate business priorities and milestones.
  • Manage content on external-facing platforms, ensuring alignment with Orica’s voice and visual identity.
  • Organise and deliver Town Halls, campaigns, and external events that reflect Orica’s strategic goals.
  • Write, edit, and manage communication materials suited to external stakeholders and audiences.
  • Create visual content—including graphics and videos—to support campaigns and storytelling.
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver communications that support change, innovation, and business

What you will bring

 

 

  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related discipline (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in external communications, corporate affairs, or marketing
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering effective communication strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong editorial eye
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or similar design tools
  • Experience in video production and content creation
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across all levels
  • Preferred Tools & Software: 
    -    Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva
    -    Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Preferred Experience:
    -    Experience in B2B, industrial, or shared services environments
    -    Familiarity with the Melbourne business landscape
    -    Understanding of mining, blasting, or related industries is a plus
