About the role
We are excited to announce a pivotal opportunity for a Research Project & Facilities Specialist role to join our esteemed team in Melbourne Technology Centre (Deer Park, VIC)
The role is essential for the effective functioning of the Innovation team across various locations. This multi-disciplinary position involves providing on-site technical support, leading local Facilities Management tasks, and assisting Orica’s Innovation team with project management, including scheduling, financial reporting, and forecasting.
This role requires interaction with commercial teams to ensure adherence to Orica's standards.
What you will be doing
In this role, you will ensure all tasks and activities are completed safely and in compliance with Orica’s SHES policies. You will attend safety meetings, contribute proactively, and support the development of new products and technologies to meet SHES requirements. As a Research Project & Facilities Specialist you will work with Research Engineers and Scientists to develop, maintain, and report on project plans. You will lead the preparation of documentation for investment decisions, support the Product Lifecycle Management process, and report on financial and progress targets monthly, ensuring project alignment.
This Research Project & Facilities Specialist will also be the key contact for facilities management at Orica’s Deer Park site, coordinating with external vendors and contractors for maintenance and improvement projects. Providing technical support to the Innovation team, you will assist in the development and testing of new products and technologies, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions. Maintaining high-quality technical documentation and records will also be a crucial part of your responsibilities.
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or Science) and <10 years work experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated understanding of project management principles
- Demonstrated flexibility in approach and ability to engage across multiple levels of an organisation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise demands to meet deadlines
Desirable Experience:
- Working knowledge of commercial drivers for product development and some financial analysis would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of product development processes, ideally electronic or mechanical system development are preferred.
- Working knowledge of the principles and some experience in the protection of Intellectual Property, and/or Government R&D Incentive schemes
- Proficiency in project management software and tools
- Some familiarity with mining, blasting or manufacturing
