About our Kooragang Island Manufacturing Site

Orica’s Kooragang Island (KI) site located in Newcastle, New South Wales, is an important part of the community. It produces essential products for industries like mining and agriculture, including ammonia, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate.

About the role

We are searching for a Plant Technician to join our team in Kooragang Island facility on a full-time and permanent position on the Ammonia and Acid Packaging Plant.

 

A Plant Technician serves as an operator-maintainer for the bottling and packaging plant, overseeing all plant operations. Responsibilities include filling small packaging, managing stock, and loading trucks with various chemicals. Additionally, our technicians handle plant troubleshooting, minor maintenance and inspections, project activities, and permit to work coordination.

 

Our team is working on a rotating roster of 12-hour day shifts. The schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week. Additional hours may be required to meet business and training needs.

 

We are looking for someone who is passionate about safety and keen to work in a small team environment. We are open to all candidates and will consider those who might be thinking about a career change but have all the right soft skills.

 

This role is a vital part of our team at Kooragang Island. Our technicians often have the longest tenure on site, so it's crucial to find someone who embodies our values and is enthusiastic about progressing with us.

What you will be doing

• Supports maximisation of plant asset availability and utilisation in alignment with business requirements, and SHE&C standards; 
• Complies with established operating procedures and routines; 
• Completes regular reviews and updates of operating procedures in line with site requirements;
• Actively participates, in conjunction internal stakeholders and customers, to deliver successful business outcomes; and
• Contributes, as required, to project design and implementation.

What you will bring

  • Forklift license;
  • Industrial experience especially in batch manufacture or dangerous goods;
  • Qualifications in electrical or mechanical trades highly regarded;
  • Competent troubleshooting skills and experience following procedures and policies;
  • Work well in teams and willing to take ownership of ongoing personal development and training; and
  • Sound numerical, verbal and computer skills.
