About the role

We are delighted to announce that an opportunity exists for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician at our manufacturing facility in Kooragang Island, NSW.

As the Nitrates Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will provide critical support for the strategic mechanical maintenance plan and play a significant role in providing highly skilled maintenance across the Nitrates Area. The operating environment is characterized by three Nitric Acid Plants, two Ammonium Nitrate Plants, bulk AN storage, loading, bagging, and dispatch Plants that are continually developing and generating the requirement to balance capital work (major/minor) with the demands of maintaining ongoing operations.

The culture is team-based, and flexible working structures are in place to ensure continuous plant operation. Work hours may be required to be flexible to meet plant demands, and there is a high dependency by the business on reliable low-cost manufacture, with a very high stock turn and severe market impact if customers are shorted. Coaching and developing the maintenance team is an essential aspect of the role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for frontline mechanical maintenance, ensuring the optimal plant uptime and long-term reliability of all mechanical equipment in the Nitrates Plant area.

What you will be doing

  • Ensure safety, health, and environmental compliance in all mechanical maintenance activities;
  • Accountability for achieving and improving targets for plant uptime through the implementation of planned maintenance, condition monitoring, and preventative maintenance routines;
  • Improving plant performance by identifying RCA on repetitive equipment failures and implementing plant modifications to eliminate the root causes of failure;
  • Provide maintenance of all Nitrates Area mechanical equipment including rotating machinery, conveyors, materials handling equipment, valves, and piping;
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements;
  • Fulfill role as a member of the Nitrates Mechanical Maintenance Team in contributing to and supporting team/business goals.

What you will bring

  • Strong Safety Culture;
  • Mechanical Fitter/Machinist Trade Qualification;
  • Communication and coordination skills to work with engineering and operational teams;
  • Experience with plant shutdowns, and mechanical maintenance in chemical or heavy engineering fields within a continuously operating environment;
  • Experienced with the following: High-Speed Rotating machinery, Condition Monitoring, Valves, and piping in high-pressure environments, Equipment overhauls, and SAP maintenance management system or similar CMMS;
