About the role

 

We’re looking for a Process Design Lead with strong technical foundations to play a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality process engineering outcomes across capital and site‑based projects at Kooragang Island and beyond.

 

In this role, you’ll lead process engineering design and assessment activities, support manufacturing improvement initiatives, and provide technical leadership across projects. You’ll collaborate closely with site teams, project managers and global technical specialists, while guiding a small team of engineers and managing external design resources.

 

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on safety, performance and long‑term asset value in complex manufacturing environments across a number of different process technologies (hydrogen, ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrate emulsion).

What you will be doing

 

  • Lead and conduct process engineering design activities for capital and site‑based projects;
  • Own, prepare and participate in process safety studies, including HAZOP, LOPA and related assessments;
  • Prepare and review key process design deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, mass & energy balances);
  • Define plant and equipment capacity to ensure safe, efficient and compliant outcomes;
  • Guide and support a small team of engineers and manage external design resources;
  • Apply process modelling and sound engineering judgement to optimise designs and support decision‑making;
  • Support manufacturing sites (as required) with process engineering expertise to ensure ongoing safe and efficient operation.

What you will bring

 

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering (postgraduate study welcomed but not essential)
  • Demonstrated capability in process design, engineering, commissioning or plant‑based roles
  • A solid understanding of process safety principles, engineering standards and regulatory requirements
  • Experience contributing to capital projects or manufacturing improvement initiatives
  • The ability to influence, mentor or guide others through technical expertise
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
