Your role as a Graduate - Electrical Engineer

 

As a Graduate - Electrical Engineer at Orica, you’ll gain practical experience working with experts in high- and low-voltage power, instrumentation, control, and automation. You will learn the fundamentals of reliability and integrity engineering, whilst working alongside maintenance, operations, project, and turnaround teams.

 

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of a designated plant area, where you'll contribute to maintenance planning, reliability improvements, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. Along the way, you'll develop technical expertise, build strong stakeholder relationships, and gain practical experience that will accelerate your growth as an engineer.

What you will be doing

 

  • Learn from Reliability & Integrity Engineers to identify plant issues and drive continuous improvement in plant performance;
  • Analyze failure modes, plant performance, and undertake root cause analysis;
  • Develop plant improvements, maintenance strategies, and take on small projects from concept development through to execution and finalization;
  • Work with the capital project department to successfully implement major plant upgrades;
  • Participate in plant turnarounds and major projects;
  • Understand and manage risk to ensure that safety, health, and environmental controls are maintained.

What you will bring

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, completed or due for completion in 2026;
  • A willingness to work in site-based and field environments;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in diverse teams;
  • A strong commitment to safety and a desire to contribute to a safe working environment.

Location and Support

 

Based at Orica’s Kooragang Island site in Newcastle, NSW, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment while working alongside experienced engineers and industry experts.
