About The Role – Field Technician (Maple Ridge, BC)

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Field Technician with the Orica Digital Solutions team based in Maple Ridge, BC. You'll play a crucial role in supporting our projects both locally and internationally. This includes commissioning, maintaining, troubleshooting, decommissioning and collecting data from geotechnical instruments. This role reports to the Maple Ridge Support Supervisor.


You will have the opportunity to support our worldwide customers both remotely and on-site, with travel up to 60%.

What you will be doing

You will provide unparalleled support to our customers and be responsible for the technical quality and accuracy of your work. You are a customer-focused, team-oriented, organized, detail-oriented, technically competent self-starter with a strong work ethic and well-developed problem-solving skills. You are positive and curious with a desire to learn and grow.
•    Spear Head communications directly with customers to relay technical knowledge and troubleshoot issue customers may have. 
•    Perform installation, testing, calibration, commissioning, repair, maintenance and decommissioning of geotechnical instruments.
•    Types of instruments include you’ll work with includes: 

  • Piezometers (vibrating wire, pneumatic and standpipe)
  • Extensometers
  • Inclinometers
  • ShapeArrays (SAAs)
  • Settlement cells/plates
  • Flumes, flow meters
  • Survey markers/monuments
  • Temperature sensing cables
  • Load cells

•    Assist with technical supervision of related construction activities.
•    Support documentation, including installation reports and commissioning records. Submit data and documentation in timely.
•    Follow and contribute to installation procedures and execution plans.
•    Provide remote and on-site support to customers worldwide to resolve geotechnical instrument issues.
•    Travel to site to perform or remotely lead third party and customer activities including: installation, configuration, and servicing of data logging and networking equipment; supervision and/or installation of geotechnical instruments and sensors; troubleshooting and repair of malfunctioning and/or damaged systems.
•    Manage customer tickets, remotely troubleshoot customer issues and proactively identify field visit requirements.
•    Provide remote and in person training to customers to meet their needs in Software and Equipment knowledge.
•    Adhere to strict safety protocols.
•    Work outdoors in various weather conditions (-40°C to +40°C)
•    Other duties as assigned by the manager

What you will bring

  • At least 6 months to 1 year of experience in the collection of manual and automated data from various types of geotechnical instrumentation, including Standpipe Piezometers, Vibrating Wire Piezometers, Pneumatic Piezometers, Inclinometers, and Extensometers.
  • Strong aptitude for customer service and field support.
  • 1-3 years of experience with geotechnical and civil instrumentation (inclinometers, extensometers, piezometers, etc.), telemetry, electronics, communications, construction, or other similar disciplines is preferred.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical site investigations (preferred).
  • Strong safety commitment.
  • Customer focused with superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, resourceful, detail-oriented, strong work ethic, problem-solver.\
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean record.
  • Willing to travel up to 60% of the time as needed, including working in remote locations.
  • The role requires the ability to travel internationally, including to the United States. Candidates must be eligible to enter the U.S. and meet any necessary travel or work authorization requirements.
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods in extreme weather when on site.

  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday
  • Travel: Travel and accommodations are provided for work at remote sites. Competitive pay, including overtime and discretionary bonus.

Your qualifications

•    Diploma or degree in Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Mining or Geotechnical Technology, or a relevant technical field.
•    A Civil/Electrical/Electronics/Mining/Geotechnical Engineering degree will be considered as an asset.
•    Eligible to register with ASTTBC (preferred)

Compensation 
•    Full Time Salary
•    $ $60,000 - $80,000 based on experience


(Salary to be determined by the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
