About the role
As our business continues to grow, Orica is excited to be expanding our North Island Mining Services Team with two Field Maintenance Fitters – Underground Mining, based at the Waihi Mine in the Hauraki District of New Zealand’s North Island.
Operating on a 7/7 roster and reporting directly to the Orica Supervisor, the Field Maintenance Fitter will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of Orica’s mobile plant and Hypercharge™ systems on site.
This role is a specialised technical role within Orica focused on operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Hypercharge™ units—advanced equipment used to safely and efficiently load explosive materials into blast holes in underground mining environments

What you will be doing
- Operates and maintains Hypercharge™ Drive systems, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and productivity standards;
- Diagnoses and repairs electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic issues on these units;
- Provides onsite and remote support during breakdowns and emergency call outs;
- Charges blast holes safely and accurately using the Hypercharge unit;
- Undertake Explosives Magazine Keeper responsibilities including inventory Management;
- Material handling and transferring including the management of ANE emulsion and storage.
What you will bring
- Trade certification in Automotive/Heavy Vehicle Mechanic/Diesel Fitter or equivalent;
- Auto electrical and CAN-BUS systems knowledge is advantageous;
- Hydraulic systems knowledge is advantageous;
- Previous experience working on heavy vehicles such as mining equipment (advantageous);
- Ability to obtain a Controlled Substance License (CSL);
- Underground mining and blast hole charging experience (often preferred);
- Strong written and verbal communication, customer relation and problem-solving skills;
- Driver’s license required, Heavy rigid (HR) vehicle license (advantageous);
- Self-Motivated worker who can manage their own hours and workload with a strong attitude to safety and quality of service.
