About the role

Following Orica’s recent acquisition of Danafloat™, we are expanding our technical capabilities to strengthen this business, with a particular focus on copper and other base metal operations. We are seeking a Metallurgist – EMEA to join Orica’s Specialty Mining Chemicals vertical.
Based in Lisbon, Portugal, the primary purpose of this role is to support existing Danafloat™ customers in Portugal and Spain, while also promoting the product range to mining operations across the broader EMEA region. This role combines deep mineral processing expertise with customer engagement and business development.
This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual to help shape the strategy and direction of Danafloat™ and Orica’s Specialty Chemicals business. A business-owner mindset, strong technical credibility, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders will be critical to success in this role.

What you will be doing

Mineral Processing Expertise
• Engage closely with customers’ metallurgy teams to provide ongoing technical support throughout contract terms.
• Develop a deep understanding of customer challenges and identify tailored technical solutions.
• Design, manage, and interpret laboratory-based trial programmes in third-party facilities to demonstrate product effectiveness.
• Collaborate with customers to plan, execute, and evaluate plant trials.

Trusted Technical Advisor
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key technical, engineering, and operational stakeholders at customer sites.
• Contribute to the development of sales and marketing collateral, including technical case studies.
• Capture and share market intelligence within the Specialty Reagents industry to inform strategy and product development.

Business Development
• Identify and pursue new customer and growth opportunities across Portugal, Spain, and the broader EMEA region.
• Collaborate closely with Orica’s Business Development teams across regions and business verticals.
• Conduct in-person customer visits to understand operational needs and present Orica’s value propositions.
• Identify opportunities for new products or applications to expand Orica’s Specialty Chemicals offering.

What you will bring

• Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science/Technology, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Operational experience in a mineral processing environment, ideally including flotation.
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Proven ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated capability to influence and engage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience with Danafloat™ and dithiophosphate collectors is preferred.

Role dimensions

• Regular travel to customer operations in Portugal and Spain.
• Occasional travel across Europe and the EMEA region.
• Individual contributor role with no direct reports.
