About the role

Provides engineering and field support to assist in developing, improving, repairing and commercialising various IS Category products and technologies. Ensures high Operational standards are met and best of practices are shared with all users.

What you will be doing

•    Provides 3rd level engineering support to customers (internal and external), including Blasting Systems Equipment Centres.
•    Supports the development and introduction of Technology projects/initiatives, including lab testing (e.g. simulations, software tests, environmental tests etc.) and related field testing in all available environmental and weather conditions. Occasionally involving preparation of samples and prototypes.
•    Supports the qualification of potential new suppliers, product verification and validation and data presentation and report writing.  
•    Pro-actively contributes to the development of new IS Category products, test methods and specifications.
•    Participates in risk assessments, investigations and root cause analysis for equipment malfunctions or incidents.
•    Writes/updates/reviews various technical documentation such as test plans, test reports, investigation reports, training material, user manuals, maintenance and troubleshooting instructions, drawings, parts list, etc.
•    Plays a supporting role in establishing new Equipment Centres including training, start-up operations and ongoing support.
•    When required, executes alterations and breakdown maintenance.
•    Provides specialist equipment training for Blasting Systems, including WebGen Firing Equipment and EBS Field Hardware.
•    Participates in identifying potential opportunities for continuous improvement.
•    Role models the use of Orica safety systems e.g. Management of Change, Permit to Work, Enablon incident reporting. 
•    Provides expertise and hands-on delivery in support of relevant regional and global projects upon request.

Role dimensions

•    Financial:  No direct accountability, however key role in keeping good cost control when involved in projects and various improvement initiatives, including spares management support. 
•    Direct reports: None.
•    Network: Works closely with various teams such as other Equipment Centres, Technology, Commercial, Sites and End Users in all levels of the organisation, located in multiple countries and regions.
•    Travel: Mobile and able to travel to remote mining locations.
•    Work hours: Full time, permanent employment. Some afterhours meetings are required to accommodate global network.

Your qualifications

•    Technician/ Engineering degree (or relevant industrial experience) in electronics, micro-electronics, mechatronics or communication technology.
•    Fluent in English (spoken and written).
•    A minimum of 3 years of experience in industry is preferred. 
•    Good understanding of digital and analog electronic circuitry, ability to read and understand electronics schematics. 
•    Good knowledge in performance testing of mechanical components as used in industrial systems and mechanical/electronic assemblies incl. EMI and environmental testing.
•    Proven strong analytical, fact-based approach to problem solving.
•    Experience with product field technical support, Field-Maintenance of electronic equipment, and / or product development.
•    Good knowledge of Microsoft suite of software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Projects.
•    Basic knowledge of AutoCAD / Solid Works (open, read, understand, and review drawings).
•    Experience with hazard analysis and safety standards.

•    Experience with SAP, especially Plant Maintenance, spares sourcing and management.  
•    Second language (e.g. Spanish, French or other).
•    Mining experience.
•    Customer engagement experience.
•    Experience with Change Management processes, e.g., risk assessments and Alteration Authority submissions.
•    Knowledge in FMEA/ hazard analysis or equivalent tools and methods.
•    C and LabVIEW programming and embedded development tools or CAD experience.
•    Analogue & Digital circuit analysis and design, including embedded microcontroller, DSP, and embedded peripherals.

•    Excellent analytical skills and a structured approach to fault finding (electronic / communications / mechanical) and pragmatic problem resolution in the field.
•    Excellent communication and documentation skills, both with Orica technical (engineering) and customer non-technical (mining) personnel.
•    Attentive to details, structured, and capable of establishing process and procedures to comply with Orica Group Standards requirements.
•    Good governance discipline to ensure best possible product implementation and utilisation. 
•    Able to prioritize and to actively contribute to several initiatives concurrently.
•    Good mix of hands-on and computer skills.
 •    Strong execution focus, self-learning and self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision (within and outside area of expertise).
