About the role


The Technology and Innovation group provides industry leading technology to enable manufacture and delivery of commercial explosives to customers for efficient management and execution of all aspects of drill and blast operations at their site. This includes development and support of control system software (LOADPlusTM) for the suite of Orica’s mobile equipment designs and their integration with BlastIQ, the core component of Orica’s Digital Solutions program. We are in a major growth phase and are essential to Orica's purpose to sustainably mobilise the earth's resources.

We’re looking for an Automation Engineer / Software Developer to join our Advanced Control Team within the Technology and Innovation group who loves solving complex problems with simple solutions.
This is a rare opportunity to develop industrial automation and control software for equipment used in manufacture and delivery of commercial explosives with the world’s leader in blasting solutions.

This role is based in our technical centre in Kurri Kurri, Newcastle and reporting to Explosives, Services & Automation – Advanced Control Manager.
 

What you will be doing

 

  • Providing software development services to develop and support Orica’s proprietary digital and mobile delivery systems designs including BlastIQTM, BulkamsterTM, AvatelTM, FlexmasterTM, MaxiloaderTM and HyperChargeTM.
  • Consult with internal stakeholders to develop functional specifications for mobile equipment development and control systems;
  • Design, develop, test, debug, maintain and document program code for control in accordance with user requirements, system designs, technical specifications, and user feedback;
  • Provide technical support and advice to field personnel (Field Service Technicians, Engineers and Operators).
  • Providing input into the product development roadmap, support models, and emerging technologies. 
  • Management of a small team of support technicians.

 

What you will bring

 

  • This role is ideally suited to individuals with up to 5 years’ experience in software development or development of control systems used in machine control;
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.  New graduates are encouraged to apply;
  • Any experience with LabVIEW programming is beneficial;
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment is not essential but would be beneficial;
  • Experience working with Git for team collaboration on software development projects is not essential but would be beneficial;
  • Experience with CODESYS or other IEC 61131-3 programming language would be beneficial.
