About the role


Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer seeking an opportunity to excel in a supportive and inclusive environment? 

We are excited to welcome Mechanical Engineers of all backgrounds to join our diverse team at our Kurri Kurri site in NSW, Australia, where we offer a hybrid working setup. 

As a Mechanical Engineer with us, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the designs of Orica's varied operational assets. Your unique perspectives and skills will contribute to driving design enhancements while ensuring adherence to Orica's group standards and procedures, thus creating a safe environment for the execution of Field Operations activities.

What you will be doing

 

  • Safety execution & leadership
  • Mechanical Engineering Support in internal & capital projects and existing plant and assets
  • Creation & Modification of Engineering Design Information in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
  • Support to discrete business initiatives (C4C Case support)
  • Regulatory and Statutory compliance of assets to be delivered by regional project team - (e.g., AEISG MPU CoP, AS2187) 
  • Management of Design Resources
  • Business improvement (delivering the savings, governance, and process)
  • Regional Asset, Engineering and Operational support


Safety, Health & Environment & Security - Operate within the Orica SHE standards

  • Sustaining awareness and providing expert mechanical engineering advice on safety, relevant group standards and statutory regulations (within the mechanical team, wider engineering group and internal customers) and ensuring that all mechanical designs produced comply with their “basis of safety”.


Commercial Ownership - Provide Quality interface and expertise between operations and its customers. This includes the complaint management system and the corrective/preventive action process related to customer issues.

  • Maximising the utilisation of existing designs ensuring standardisation of components and design concepts for fixed plant and mobile equipment.


Innovative Customer Solutions - Continuous improvement of design information to advantage Customer and Orica. 

  • Supporting all projects initiatives pertaining to customer retention plan. Implementation of new customer-focused projects to improve their profitability 


Working Together - Support site’s Operations manager in demonstrating leadership of the site Operation team. 

  • Managing relationships with internal business units and external service providers for timely delivery of cost-effective mechanical design solutions.

 

What you will bring

 

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a professional engineer in technical business with involvement in production, technology, and engineering design.
  • Role is in Orica's Explosive & Automation Systems Team.
  • It will suit a Specialist or Senior Engineer
  • Experience in project management and managing small teams.
  • Design information creation & modification in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS
  • A thorough knowledge of AS1100 drawing standards
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements relating to mechanical engineering and the commercial explosives industry.
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and practice covering all engineering disciplines including project management.
  • A practical understanding of our depot and manufacturing operations.
  • An understanding of the Group's objectives, and the Project & Engineering's part in those.
