About the role
Orica is seeking a dedicated and experienced Applications Engineer to join our team. This role is critical for supporting new requirements and implementations within our SAP GTS system, ensuring compliance and efficiency in our operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ethics and Compliance team and other process owners to deliver high-quality solutions.

What you will be doing
- Conduct feasibility studies, design solutions, and create blueprints to meet business requirements.
- Application Development:
- Support all phases of the application development lifecycle: scoping, design, development, testing, and implementation.
- Manage and implement regular product releases and upgrades.
- Review vendor notifications, perform impact assessments, and provide updates and recommendations.
- Provide SME advice and support to operational teams, assist with escalations, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Engage with key business stakeholders, GPDOs, and IT business engagement teams to design, deliver, and support solutions.
- Communicate with impacted business users and coordinate testing and change management activities.
- Review operational reports and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Attend operational meetings with business stakeholders.
- Create and maintain documentation related to installation, architecture, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of Orica’s application functionality and business processes.
- Liaise with IT PMO Lead and IT Project Managers to provide advice on solution development and planning.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to identify interdependencies and support infrastructure delivery.
- Ensure IT assets are lifecycle managed for software applications within the area of responsibility.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in an IT-related discipline.
- 7-8 years of experience in GTS, particularly in implementation rollouts and large projects.
- Knowledge of sanctioned party list screening, embargo, legal control, and product classification.
- Experience with license control, numbering, commodity code, tariff code definition, and country-specific configuration.
- Proficient in integrating SAP (S/4) & GTS, including enhancements using BADI’s and third-party systems.
- Preferred working experience/migration experience with S/4 GTS (EOH).
- Skilled in building forms and reports in GTS.
- Exposure to master data, order management, delivery, and invoicing is an advantage.
- Experience in onboarding new countries to GTS and enabling compliance and license checks.
- Ability to analyze issues (blocks, SPL results, etc.) and collaborate with the E&C team for solutions.
- Experience in risk management is a plus.
- Proven success in designing applications that solve business problems.
- Ability to understand and translate complex business requirements into application solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and remediation skills.
- Competency in project management methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Initiative to anticipate problems and advise on appropriate solutions.
