About the role
As a Graduate Blasting Engineer at Orica, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of explosives at project sites. You will support engineering operations related to the storage, handling, and application of explosives, while ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
What you will be doing
Key Accountabilities:
- Review and verify blast designs to ensure safety and compliance with operational standards.
- Oversee the safe storage, handling, and usage of explosives, reporting any risks or irregularities to the Project Manager immediately.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and local authorities to define and secure the blast danger zone.
- Prepare and obtain approval for detailed Blasting Specifications for each blast.
- Ensure full compliance with explosives regulations and company safety protocols.
- Inspect and validate the suitability and safety of shot firing equipment and accessories prior to use.
- Immediately remove any unsafe equipment or accessories from operation.
- Confirm that only authorized personnel, with written approval from the Ministry of Interior (where applicable), are involved in explosive-related activities.
- Conduct electrical integrity checks of the shot firing system to minimize misfire risks.
- Perform secondary checks on all surface and underground connections before coverage.
- Restrict access to the danger zone and verify sentry positions before each blast.
- Ensure all blasts are executed from a safe location and certify the blast area is free of misfires post-waiting period.
- Monitor and maintain proper ventilation during charging and post-blast operations.
- Support the Safety Officer in conducting gas monitoring and recording post-blast gas levels.
- Audit and monitor adherence to explosives regulations and company policies.
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized and reputable institution.
- Strong understanding of explosives safety regulations and blasting operations.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, especially with cross-functional teams and authorities.
- Willingness to work in field conditions and travel to remote project sites as required.

Your qualifications
Must have successfully completed a Bachelor level or equivalent degree from a recognised tertiary institution, in an approved Enterprise Graduate Program discipline.
