About the role

Orica is seeking a Engineering Design Manager to join the Orica Technology Centre in Hyderabad, India. Reporting to the Technology Centre Manager, you will lead the Centre’s engineering and design drafting team, which provides plant and product engineering services to stakeholders across Orica’s global business.

The key focus of this position is advancing the Centre from an established drafting operation into a broader engineering shared-services provider. You will lead the delivery and continued development of engineering services while ensuring that quality, responsiveness and customer experience expectations are consistently met.

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to help shape the next stage of Orica’s engineering capability in Hyderabad. You will bring together technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, service delivery and team development to expand the Centre’s engineering capabilities and support plant and product initiatives across Orica’s regions and business lines.

What you will be doing

 

  • Lead the delivery and continued development of plant and product engineering and drafting services, ensuring compliance with Orica’s safety, legal and risk-management requirements.
  • Partner with global stakeholders to define requirements, establish clear scopes of work and ensure engineering solutions meet business needs.
  • Guide product and technology development across concept design, reliability, manufacturability, testing and manufacturing documentation.
  • Oversee engineering quality, change-control processes, project timelines, budgets and customer-service expectations.
  • Build and lead a diverse, multidisciplinary team, strengthening capability through coaching, training and effective resource management.
  • Ensure engineering information, design files and intellectual property are accurately managed and protected.

What you will bring

Essential:
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline.
  • At least 15 years of relevant engineering experience, including process-plant design and mechanical product design or assemblies.
  • Experience in concept design, prototyping, testing, 3D modelling, bills of materials and manufacturing or supplier documentation.
  • Experience in mining, minerals or a related heavy industry, with knowledge of operational workflows and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to understand stakeholder needs, define requirements and deliver customer-focused engineering solutions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder-management and problem-solving capabilities, with advanced written and spoken English.
  • Availability to travel approximately 25% to 50% of the time.

Desirable

  • Five or more years of team-leadership experience, including building or developing a team or function.
  • Postgraduate, technical, management or project-management qualifications or certifications.
  • Experience in the explosives industry and managing complex projects or change initiatives.
