About the role
Orica is a global leader in mining and blasting solutions, and our Data, Analytics & AI team is building the next generation of data products that power our business worldwide. We’re looking for a Data Platform Engineer who can help design, build, and manage modern data solutions across our multi‑cloud environment.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping the data foundation that supports Orica’s global operations. You’ll work across our multi‑cloud data platform to develop and maintain data products, pipelines, business intelligence solutions, and GenAI‑enabled tools that drive smarter decision‑making across the company.
This position combines data engineering, cloud platform operations, SAP analytics knowledge, and strong collaboration skills. You’ll work closely with business users, data stewards, engineers, analysts, and vendors to deliver secure, high‑quality, and scalable data solutions.

What you will be doing
Build and Improve Data Products
- Create data pipelines, data products, BI products, and GenAI-enabled tools on Orica’s multi-cloud data platform.
- Translate business requirements into usable and high-quality data solutions.
- Work with SAP S/4HANA Embedded Analytics and SAP BI as data flows from source systems into the platform.
Strengthen Orica’s Data Platform
- Contribute to data architecture, storage, processing, performance, and security.
- Evaluate and select the right technologies for databases, data warehouses, BI tools, and cloud services.
- Monitor performance, resolve issues, and ensure solutions are reliable and scalable.
Support Business & IT
- Collaborate with data stewards, platform engineers, BI analysts, and business teams.
- Ensure strong data governance, standards, and best practices.
- Manage solution testing, documentation, lifecycle, and releases.
Drive Quality, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all design changes follow Orica’s IT architecture and governance standards.
- Work with vendors, internal teams, and project managers to deliver stable and sustainable solutions.
- Help simplify Orica’s application and data landscape while ensuring security and compliance.
What you will bring
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Degree in an IT-related field
- 10+ years of experience in IT, with expertise in at least two of:
- SAP BI / S4H Embedded Analytics
- Data Management
- ETL
- Data Analytics
- Data Visualization
- Data Warehouse / Data Lake
- Cloud Data Services
- API Management
- Experience in global organisations using Agile and DevOps
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with multi-sourced teams (employees, contractors, vendors)
Nice-to-Have:
- Certifications or experience in SAP, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- 5+ years designing and deploying cloud data products
- Experience with SAP BI + Microsoft/Google product ecosystems
