About the role

The Data Engineer – Blasting Analytics CoE will design, implement and maintain data solutions on the Azure data platform and provides specialist/analysts support to generate insights using Orica, customer, and third-party data to enable Orica to sustainably create value.

What you will be doing

  • Uphold Orica's safety standards and adhere to Global Operating Procedures.
  • Design and build scalable, reliable data pipelines and ETL processes on Azure.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and design solutions.
  • Implement data integration and transformation using Azure Synapse Analytics and APIs for seamless data exchange between SAP S/4HANA and other systems.
  • Develop, test, and deploy data processing using SQL, Python, PySpark, and other languages.
  • Optimize data workflows for performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct data profiling, cleansing, and quality assessments to ensure integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data issues and performance bottlenecks promptly.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to improve data architecture and governance.
  • Document data solutions, including models, flow diagrams, and specifications.
  • Set up tools for data visualization, report generation, and visual creation.

What you will bring

  • Degree in Engineering, Science (Computer/Data Engineering/Analytics), or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in data engineering/analytics, preferably with Azure focus.
  • Proficient in Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure DevOps, Azure Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure ML, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong SQL skills, experience with relational and non-relational databases, and languages like Python, R, PySpark, Scala, or .NET.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies like Hadoop or Spark.
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices desirable.
  • Knowledge of data integration best practices, data governance, and data quality principles.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, descriptive and exploratory statistics, predictive modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Advantageous: Understanding of minerals and mining industry data.
  • Demonstrates courage, resilience, and flexibility, high integrity and ethics.
  • Builds trust, strong stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Self-aware, open to feedback, with strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • High-level decision-making and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated, well organized, and logical, with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Travel required less than 25% of the time.
  • Subject matter expertise in data engineering and analytics.
