About the role
At Orica, we are shaping the future of mining and infrastructure through safe, responsible, and sustainable solutions. We are currently seeking an experienced SHES Specialist (Environment) to join our Gomia manufacturing site and play a key role in strengthening environmental governance, compliance, and remediation across our operations. You will act as the site subject matter expert for environmental management, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and alignment with Orica’s global SHES standards.
This role is ideal for an environmental professional who enjoys being hands-on at site level, while also contributing to regional and global environmental initiatives.

What you will be doing
- Implementing and embedding Orica’s global environmental management systems and procedures at site level
- Providing expert advice to site and regional stakeholders on environmental and ESG-related matters
- Developing, monitoring, and driving environmental and ESG improvement initiatives aligned with site SHES plans
- Acting as the escalation point for environmental issues from the plant and leading investigations and remediation activities
- Managing environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Leading regulatory engagement and liaison with government bodies such as JSPCB and CPCB
- Overseeing waste management, emissions control, groundwater monitoring, and environmental reporting (regulatory and internal)
- Analysing environmental performance data and escalating key risks to site leadership and Asia SHES leadership
- Supporting and contributing to environmental remediation strategies, including contamination management
- Leading environmental training and capability-building across the site
- Managing a small on-site environmental team, including an Environmental Coordinator and Lab Technician
- Participating in regional environmental forums and steering committees, representing Gomia where required
What you will bring
Essential:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline (undergraduate or postgraduate)
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in an environmental role within manufacturing, industrial, or heavy industry environments
- Strong working knowledge of environmental compliance, audits, and risk management
- Ability to engage confidently with regulators and internal stakeholders
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
- Strong documentation, reporting, and analytical skill
Preferred:
- Exposure to environmental remediation or contamination management projects
- Experience working in regulated manufacturing or discrete manufacturing environments
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
