About the role
The Engineer - Manufacturing develops, implements and continuously improves work strategies for all equipment within their responsible asset categories to assure the functional safety of the equipment and therefore support license to operate continuity through work strategies management, defect elimination, Master Data Management, Condition monitoring and Performance management (KPIs). Note: The functional safety requirements of the assets are as defined by local legislation or standards in conjunction with the process design and the associated identified major hazards.
What you will be doing
- Identify and implement initiatives for cost reduction or efficiency improvement in existing processes, including developing and executing implementation roadmaps and performing cost-benefit analyses to evaluate RONA, ROI, and payback periods.
- Develop design documents and deliverables according to project, process, or initiative requirements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in the plant.
- Provide comprehensive solutions for plant automation and control system design for identified projects or initiatives.
- Design and create documents necessary for conducting LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis), CHAZOP (Chemical Hazard and Operability Study), and SIL (Safety Integrity Level) studies as per process requirements.
- Develop electrical area classification (EAC) and establish equipment standards in accordance with EAC guidelines.
- Provide technical support for sites in the Asia region, including India, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, electrical engineers, and technicians, to integrate and optimize mechatronic systems.
- Work with functional experts and subject matter experts (SMEs) across Orica sites.
- Conduct design reviews and validate engineering documents according to relevant Indian and International standards.
- Define site-specific standards for various operational technology (OT) equipment with support from REE (Regional Engineering Experts).
- Provide commissioning support for strategic projects as required.
- Document designs, developments, and modifications to ensure thorough record-keeping and effective knowledge transfer.
- Develop partnerships with vendors.
What you will bring
- Full-time bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or Instrumentation & Control Engineering is required, preferably from a reputable engineering college.
- Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in designing mechatronic systems within the manufacturing or chemical industry, with end-to-end implementation experience from concept through commissioning preferred.
- Ability to develop equipment design specifications for small and medium-sized projects involving HMIs, PLCs, and DCS systems.
- Experience in designing, configuring, integrating, and implementing process control solutions for the Chemical and Specialty Chemical sectors.
- Familiarity with IEC standards, design and application programming, and integration; knowledge of regulatory compliance is a bonus.
- Proven expertise in PLC programming, industrial robotics, motion control systems, and HMI development.
- Strong analytical skills with the capability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
- Experience in developing Electrical Area Classification (EAC) and electrical equipment standards for chemical processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and vendors.
- 2 to 3 years of project management experience is a plus.
- Experience in preparing project reports and Management Information System (MIS) reports.
