About the role
The Engineer - Manufacturing develops, implements and continuously improves work strategies for all equipment within their responsible asset categories to assure the functional safety of the equipment and therefore support license to operate continuity through work strategies management, defect elimination, Master Data Management, Condition monitoring and Performance management (KPIs). Note: The functional safety requirements of the assets are as defined by local legislation or standards in conjunction with the process design and the associated identified major hazards.
What you will be doing
• Serve as the primary custodian of the site's engineering drawings database, overseeing the release and management of these documents.
• Design and validate machine and process equipment, including pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, or adapt designs from global plants to meet site-specific needs.
• Develop design and project requirement statements for strategic initiatives.
• Provide technical support for sites in the Asia region, including India, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
• Identify and implement cost reduction or efficiency improvement initiatives for existing processes, creating implementation roadmaps and conducting cost-benefit analyses to assess RONA/ROI/Payback period.
• Develop design documents and deliverables to meet project, process, or initiative requirements for improving efficiency and reducing costs in the plant.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, electrical engineers, and technicians, to integrate and optimize mechanical equipment.
• Work with functional experts and subject matter experts (SMEs) across Orica sites.
• Conduct design reviews and validate engineering documents according to applicable Indian and International standards.
• Maintain thorough documentation of designs, developments, and modifications to ensure effective record-keeping and knowledge transfer.
• Provide commissioning support for strategic projects as needed.
What you will bring
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a reputable engineering college, with full-time study required.
• 6 to 8 years of experience in machine design, particularly with special purpose machines in the manufacturing or chemical process industry. Preferably with comprehensive experience from design through to commissioning.
• Proficiency in developing equipment design specifications for small to medium-sized projects, including special purpose machines, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, and process vessels.
• Experience in designing, configuring, integrating, and implementing strategic cost reduction or efficiency improvement projects in the Chemical and Specialty Chemical sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of Indian and International standards relevant to machine and process equipment design.
• Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting complex automation issues.
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• 2 to 3 years of project management experience is advantageous.
• Experience in preparing project reports and Management Information System (MIS) reports is required.
