About the role
The Advisor - SHES provides guidance and advice on key activities within the relevant Manufacturing Centre or Sub Regional SHES department.
What you will be doing
Facilitate and conduct Issue Based Risk Assessments of all activities that include high risk tasks/major hazards involving Fall from Height, Mobile
equipment operation, on bench activities, lifting operations, excavations, electrical work, hot work etc.
Conduct training for permit to work issuers and ensure successful implementation of permit to work system through ongoing inspections/audit on the
permits.
Conduct daily infield safety inspections on all work activities and stop any unsafe work activities.
Conduct on job safety observation to verification the SOP’s/ work instruction are followed as per Orica and Mine requirements to ensure compliance.
Conduct SHE is onboarding and induction training for all new employees and annually refreshers for all existing employees.
Conduct all Orica SHES mandatory training (Tier 1, 2& 3) as allocated per job role.
Support and enable Orica leaders to execute their SHES responsibilities and accountabilities.
Conduct infield Safety Leadership interaction to coach and empower employees and building a strong safety culture on site.
Ensure accuracy of information and delivery in agreed timeframes that includes Incident reporting, close out actions from inspection and audit findings and
statutory requirements.
Participate in continuous improvement processes and problem-solving activities to ensure prompt response to SHE related concerns to ensure safe
workplace.
Ensure timely reporting of all incidents to all relevant parties and formal capturing on electronic based system.
Support and lead incident investigations to ensure identification of root causes and appropriate actions are implemented to prevent recurrence and lessons
learnt.
Ensure weekly progress tracking of all actions arising from incident investigations, inspections/ audits, on job observations and authority visits to ensure
effective implementation and escalation where required.
Attend and participate in Customer SHE Meetings and provide feedback on Orica SHES performance.
Provide support in SHE Risk Management during onsite project/ upgrades to prevent any SHES related incidents.
Contribute to the development and implementation of SHES management systems
Participate in implementation of initiatives to identify, mitigate and prevent SHES risks
Conduct weekly tracking and implement statutory compliance to ensure License to Operate. (I.e. Compliancy licenses, OSHA compliance, NEMC etc.)
What you will bring
Engineering or science degree in fields related to occupational health & safety or similar, or an endorsement by the Vice President SHES
based on pertinent prior experience. ·
With tertiary or technical qualification - up to 3 years’ experience post qualification in SHES, manufacturing, mining, or heavy industry environments ·
Without formal qualifications - up to 10 years of administrative experience, or allocation of work to operators. ·
Knowledge of SHES management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) · Experience in incident investigation methodologies
Role dimensions
Supports SHES activities across operational areas within the customer’s site.
Provides SHES guidance to site leaders, supervisors, and frontline employees.
No direct reports but may coordinate contractors or support cross-functional teams on SHES initiatives.
Works within established SHES frameworks, systems, and policies, with moderate autonomy in execution ·
Contributes to site-level and sub-regional SHES performance outcomes, including safety, environmental, and compliance metrics ·
Participates in incident investigations, audits, and risk assessments across supported operations ·
Engages with internal stakeholders (operations, maintenance, HR, leadership) and occasionally external stakeholders (regulators, auditors, contractors)
