About the role


We are currently seeking Orica’s next Specialist – Safety, Health, Environment & Security (SHES) to lead our Deer Park Chemical Manufacturing site. This is a full-time, permanent site leadership role that plays a vital part in shaping and driving our safety culture.

This critical role leads in providing assurance in achieving SHES objectives through stewardship of improvement in occupational safety, occupational health, environment, and process safety performance indicators.

What you will be doing

 

  • Ensure site compliance with regulatory and Orica SHE requirements by completing assurance processes and aligning the Permit to Work program with Orica’s Group Standards.
  • Provide visible leadership to promote safe behaviors and correct conditions that conflict with Orica’s SHEC values and standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and continuously improve SHE KPIs to guide line management and SHE support teams in identifying focus areas and deliverables.
  • Coordinate SH&E auditing, investigations, training, and action processes across the site, ensuring consistent implementation and follow-through.
  • Advise and support line management in fulfilling their SH&E responsibilities and maintaining compliance with SHE values and standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of SHE improvement projects, including process safety, risk assessments, and occupational health initiatives at the Deer Park Site.
  • Drive operational efficiency by optimizing plant and equipment utilization, managing people resources, and facilitating the rollout of the Major Hazard Management program and Stop Cards.

What you will bring

 

  • At least 3 years of experience, ideally in manufacturing or industrial settings;
  • Diploma or degree in engineering, science, or a related field;
  • Good understanding of Occupational Safety and Health regulations;
  • Skilled in investigation methods like 5-whys and ICAM;
  • Experience using safety management systems (e.g., Enablon) is a plus;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills across all levels of an organization;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer tools.
