About The Role – 34232 - Technologist PPIS (Charlestown IN)
Orica is hiring a Product Process Implementation Support Technologist (PPIS) to assist in operations support function in North America focusing on improving productivity of our business and that of our customers. Support the application of innovative, value added products and systems for surface and underground mining.
This position is recognized and valued for senior level of specialization in explosives and project management. Provide troubleshooting and technical support and improve both internal and external customer satisfaction. Perform plant & field audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented to address concerns and avoid product complaints. Investigate opportunities and focus on maximization of overall bulk profit margins through guiding contributions of innovative actions to continuously reduce product application costs.
What you will be doing
Safety, Health & Environment
• Demonstrate commitment in company-wide Deliver the Promise Goal of Safety, Health & Environment.
• Mentor employees and customers in safe working practices.
• Participate in Hazard Studies and ensure proper implementation of Change Notices and New Equipment Inspections at Orica’s plants and field sites.
• Lead the Basis of Safety within all explosive businesses.
• Product specialist for the Emergency Response plan
Supervision
• Work with Team Leader PPIS NA to deliver specific field activities to reach defined goals within acceptable time frames.
• Assist with new programs for proper operator training, customer field demonstrations and hand-over to business completion.
• Lead audits of bulk plants and field equipment for safe and proper operation.
• Review manufacturing and loading specifications driving quality products delivery to customers.
• Guide development group to bring new products and services into the field successfully on the first attempt.
Scientific Activities
• Implementation of updated processes to reduce operational costs, improve business efficiencies and increase product profit margins.
• Ensure Orica protocols are followed in product introduction process.
Financial Focus
• Monitor development of innovative opportunities to decrease manufacturing and operational costs.
• Track and manage specific annual budget objectives assigned by Team Leader PPIS NA.
Communication
• Feedback opportunities with Field Scientist Supervisor for improvement to business units and operations including new product options.
• Coordinate details for proper implementation of new products and services in Orica plants and customer sites.
• Address customer concerns, questions, and issues quickly through direct communication or delegation of appropriate resources.
What you will bring
• Professional knowledge of explosives, initiation systems and blasting applications.
• Specialist in underground loading equipment and surface explosives delivery systems.
• Expert understanding of process, plant, equipment design and layout.
• Expertise of electronics, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Excellent understanding of explosives chemistry, experimental design and interpretation.
• Project management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with wide variety of customers including miners, engineers, operations, and management.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
• No direct reports – supervision of projects and resources as assigned by Team Leader PPIS NA.
• Performance measures include: budget management, timely completion of projects, cost reduction, margin improvements, customer feedback, and audit completion.
• Conversational English. Spanish and/or French is a plus.

Role dimensions
• Fieldwork environment in all types of weather and harsh climates –40ºC to +40ºC.
• Moderate physical stress and occasional long hours.
• Extensive travel both domestic and international. Trip duration: 1 week with possible 2 weeks occasionally
• Require activities include sitting, walking, reaching, bending, frequent use of hands and occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
Your qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a chemical lab or plant

Compensation
• Salary $78,675 – $110,145 USD
• Eligible for annual short-term incentive plan
(Salary to be determined by the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
