About the role

As the Manager of our Manufacturing Centre in Zambia- Chambishi, you'll be at the forefront of driving excellence in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Motivation. Your leadership will be the key to our success, guiding a cross-functional team to achieve outstanding results.

 

As a vital member of Orica’s Global Manufacturing Team, you'll also represent the Manufacturing Centre and Orica in the local industry and community, showcasing our commitment to excellence and innovation.

What you will be doing

 

Ensure that safety, health, environment and security procedures are adhered to by all members and across all activities of the Manufacturing Centre.

Set the manufacturing centre strategy and vision for the future integrated with the needs of the business and other business functions.

Develop the Manufacturing Centre Leadership Team and high-potential talent by maximizing their potential and capabilities. This includes implementing succession planning for key roles,  employee progression plans, and Individual development plans in alignment with the people plan.

Demonstrate strong leadership traits such as vision, mentorship, and strategic thinking.

Continuously deploy best practices across all product line and functional support activities, ensuring full business alignment while upholding integrity and respect within the team.

Align all personal behaviours with Orica’s Charter Values, Purpose and Strategy.

Exemplify and lead by demonstrating safe behaviours and values, ensuring these principles are consistently upheld and integrated into all aspects of our operations.

Drive consistency of performance in the definition and accountabilities of the manufacturing centre employees, through having performance management processes in place to communicate expectations and provide feedback on performance.

Foster a culture where leadership inspires and engages employees, actively involving them in the continuous improvement process.

Promote collaboration across the organization by ensuring that functional support departments, both within and outside the manufacturing centre, provide the necessary and optimized support to the product line team.

Emphasize teamwork among team members to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and performance goals.

Actively participate as a member of Manufacturing & Supply Chain team & maintain regular interaction with Regional Management Team.

Proactively maintain relationships with external stakeholders across regulatory bodies, local community and local industry for optimised outcomes for the Mfg. Centre and Orica.

Be the representative of the manufacturing centre region within manufacturing leadership team in the EMEA region and to the broader Manufacturing and Supply Chain structure in the organization.

 

What you will bring


Considerable change management & process improvement experience.

Considerable regulatory, emergency, and incident management experience.

Sound knowledge of manufacturing operations and interface between disciplines.

Thorough understanding of legal and statutory requirements for a hazardous manufacturing site.

Communicate the manufacturing and organizations vision for goals and performance delivery.

Ability to create strategic plans to guide the team through transitions and ensure everyone understands the purpose and benefits of the changes.

Possess unquestioned reputation for integrity, ethics, personal values and solid character.

Lead by example and inspire confidence in the team.

Use effective communication to motivate and engage employees, fostering a positive attitude towards each other and their role.

Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including team members, other departments, and senior management, to gain support and ensure a unified approach.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to growth and change whilst encouraging the team to embrace new ideas and approaches and provide support as they navigate through changes.

Model resilience and flexibility; adapts well to new circumstances and adversity

Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions and delivery for tasks and projects on track.

Provide training and development opportunities to equip the team with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed.

Regularly seek feedback from the team and stakeholders to make necessary adjustments and ensure to main efficiency and sustainability in the plant and team.

 

Your qualifications

 

Formal tertiary qualification in engineering or science discipline is required.

Minimum experience of 10- 15 years’ experience in manufacturing, particularly in high-risk industries such as explosives, chemicals, or pharmaceutical.

Minimum of 5- 7 years of leading and managing a team, driving change, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement experience.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and familiarity with process hazard analysis.

Certificate in explosives technology or safety management will be advantageous.
