About the role

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Payroll Officer within our Orica North America Payroll Team.  This position is responsible for tracking all necessary tasks for processing bi-weekly payroll in Canada for approximately 300 hourly (unionized) employees. They will provide timely and high-quality customer service to employees regarding payroll matters.

What you will be doing

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Comply with the safety charter and immediately report any accident, injury, or incident.
  • Participate periodically in safety meetings.


Payroll Processing

  • Enter salary calculations in accordance with company policy.
  • Verify the accuracy of payroll data transmission for final submission to ADP.
  • Facilitate changes to direct deposit and verify new accounts.
  • Review, verify, and directly manage the flow of information to various destinations as needed, including GL, HR, payroll, and tax interfaces for hourly payroll processing.
  • Enter new hires, terminations, promotions, rate changes, wage garnishments, child support orders, tax deduction changes, relocation expenses, bonuses, and various other updates into the file to be uploaded into the ADP system.

 

Data Integrity

  • Ensure the integrity of payroll system data and employee records.
  • Review personnel files to determine names, pay rates, and job titles of newly hired employees, as well as changes to pay rates and job titles for employees on payroll lists.

 

Customer Service

  • Implement mechanisms to improve and monitor customer service.
  • Use the HR ticketing system to respond to and resolve employee and manager requests.


Systems

  • ADP – Pay at Work and EZ Labor Manager (fully outsourced service).
  • ServiceNow ticketing system.
  • Outlook 365.
  • Dayforce (starting in 2026).


Physical Requirements

  • Typical office work environment.
  • Required activities include frequent sitting and walking.

What you will bring

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll processing.
  • Experience with Canadian payroll.
  • Familiarity with collective agreements — an asset.
  • Problem-solving skills — essential.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, human relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work despite interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • French language skills required (to support French-speaking employees).
  • English language skills required (to support English-speaking employees).

Role dimensions

  • The position holder must be able to work in person at the Centennial, CO office for a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Hours Monday to Friday, daytime.

Compensation Range  

  • Between $28.59 and $40.03 / hour

 

(Salary to be determined by the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
